I just built my brand new system:
A64 3000+ Shuttle AN51R My temps were showing 73C for the CPU! I'm using the stock cooling while waiting for my watercooling stuff to come in. I've always had my temps below 50C, and above 50C I started to worry. Here's what happened: 1. Read Anandtech posters tell me to shut my computer off, so I did. 2. Unclamped the HSF, only to find that it was stuck to the A64 with the thermal grease. 3. Pulled. 4. HSF came off, with the CPU STILL ATTACHED TO IT. Meaning it got yanked out while the ZIF socket was in the locked position. 5. Screamed. 6. Saw bent pins. 7. Screamed. 8. Carefully bent them back, telling myself that if the CPU is dead, I'll just say that it was DOA. 9. Took off old compound, put AS5 on CPU and HSF. 10. Remount. 11. Same old temperature. 12. BIOS upgrade. 13. BIOS shows 39C for CPU. 14. MBM and MBProbe, however, STILL shows 73C. 15. On load, temp only fluctuates by about 2C. Should I RMA because of this? |

Seems like a waste of time. Are you sure MBM doesn't pull the temp from the wrong sensor?
Otherwise, which was your original thermal paste? |

Original thermal paste was the stuff that came on stock HSF. To my surprise, it looked very silverish and AS-like.
Yeah, that's what I think so too, but I don't want my CPU incinerating itself IF something goes wrong with the cooling system and the sensor doesn't read the increase correctly to notify me/auto shutdown. Here's what the temps are like: MB 38C, AUX 40C, and CPU 39C (after calibrating MBM downwards 34C to match BIOS) As you can see, all the temps are pretty low, which is why I'm not sure if the right sensors are selected or not. Normally the CPU would stand out. In this case the AUX stands out. What could the AUX be for if it isn't for CPU or MB? |

An in-socket temp probe?!?
Anyone? |

*shrugs shoulders* When I installed the CPU I didn't see a thermal diode (small bulbous thing, right?) in the middle of the socket.
Ok, now I'm thoroughly, thoroughly confused. I just put a 120mm blowing right on the CPU HSF and the CPU temp DIDN'T change, but the AUX and MB temps dropped 5C. If you don't know the layout of my board, the chipset is under the AGP card, so the AGP card is blocking any airflow it gets from the 120mm. So why the heck is the MB temp dropping so much, with no decrease in CPU temp? To top it off, when I tried blowing the 120mm on the chipset, the temps all around didn't change at all. |

Hmmm, as far as i know MBM stopped develloping before most of the A64-mobo's were on the market.
Are you sure that you're mobo is supported? Because if it's not the readout's are wrong; plain and simple. You can be lucky, but i guess you aren't ... Try speedfan or so and compare the temps with those you can see in the bios to check which is your cputemp. Afterwards you can try to configure mbm with the correct sensors to get a good readout.
