A Question/Challenge about my upcoming project,

I'm about to move onto my second project, and I'm considering using a V2000 as a base unit, shown here:



Another blokes used one here,



And I've currently also got a water cooling system I have to fit in. Thing is I've got 2 single heatercores, from soulsend, shown here:



The shroud itself is 6"x6"x2" and the heatercore 7 1/2”x6”x 2”. They seem to be approximately 16cm x 18cm x 10cm, but that's a guess from very rough measuring.

Now, the question is, how do I fit these babies in....

I was thinking of say moving the PSU to the up a bit, so it's where the radiator is on the above guy's setup, and then having the heatercore on its side below, so it blows right to left, but I'm not sure that'll work.

Anyone have any ideas? I'm stumped.

You've got a few options.

When I went through this, the solution came to me when I considered where I wanted the hot air to be exhausted: not out the front, not the sides, but the back or underside would be ok. The top was definitely out, because I suffer from coffee-cup-spill-o-phobia

It was also relatively simple for me to select the final location, because I simply pulled out the rear panel, which normally holds the PSU, for a perfect fit of a 6" by 8" opening (no cutting required!!!), since my PSUs are mounted up front.

Yeh but I can't remove any of the panels which is annoying. They're all fixed in.

What I may do now though is move the PSU up like they have, then have 1 single rad on its side at the bottom blowing left to right, so it takes the air blown in by the HDD fan (the HDDs will be at the top of the racks to stop air flow restriction) and blow it out underneith the PSU. My second one I'll have on its side in between the CD-drives and the motherboard.

That's my current plan anyway.

Anyone else got anything better?

Well if anyone cares I got it up and running, it came yesterday, it's lovely















For anyone who wants to know how my setup works, it's like this:

The blue arrows show the water flow (Pump -> Rad -> Maze 4 GPU -> MCW-6002 -> Rad -> Pump)

The red arrows show air. There's holes in the bottom of the case, and in the stand the right rad is sitting on, below the PSU, which has a fan in the bottom to suck air through the rad as well as the fan on it.

Looks good, Cougem. Bet the temps will be darned good with all that rad. But... Why not put the HD in the forward cage and suspend the pump at the top of the rear cage?

All my HD are in the front cage, so put my pump upside down hanging down? How come, for the noise benefits? It's pretty damn silent already....

Your HDs sure look to be in the rear cage... I thought that putting the pump at the top of the rear cage would remove about 1' of tubing. BTW, what rad fans are you using?

Oh I see,I meant read from the mobo.

The HDDs are there to try and cut down on the cabling rather than anything else, but I'll think about it next time I bleed

I'm using 120mm T/take thunderblades on the rads. 72CFM, but pretty quiet.

Does anyone here know/think if airflow is affected with the fans mounted inside (like cougem's) as opposed to outside the shroud?

Depends on the size of the shroud. I've you've got a close fitting one, outside is probably best as the dead zone reduces to nothing with distance. But my shrouds have a large depth and so inside works perfectly and helps insure all of the air comes through the rad, rather than a possible small gap between the fan and the shroud.

Has anyone considered removing the 3" drive bays at the bottom? That seems to be the bperfect place to put a radiator, and given there's already a 12cm intake fan, you can use that to cool the rad instead of adding another fan.
Trouble is, apparently the bays are unremovable. Can they be removed by force, or are they "load bearing" bays?

They have rivets. What I may do is see if I can unscrew the rails and somehow get the rads in, I can't quite see if it'll fit, if it does it'll be tight, I've tried to measure with a ruler and they seem to be pretty much exactly the same - the rad and the bays' sizes.
