Hello forum (and YES I'm the forum virgin )
![]() I'm new to watercooling, so would like to share same questions with you. As an nice Christmas gift, next week I will be the happy owner of the following watercooling gear: - Swiftech H20-120™ REV. 3 SERIES LIQUID COOLING KIT (with the new MCP350 pump) http://www.swiftnets.com/products/h20-120-R3-0.asp - MCB-120™ "Radbox" radiator/fan housing http://www.swiftnets.com/products/MCB-120.asp - MCW50™ Graphics Card Liquid Coolers http://www.swiftnets.com/products/mcw50.asp (with the adapter kit for the NV 6800 series) My current system spec is P4 3.0 Prescott @ 3.5 OC and Gainward 6800GT @ Ultra OC New revision of the Swiftech kit seems very good (couple of my friends actually recommended me the Rev3 of this kit) and hopefuly this will cool nicely my Prescott & 6800GT. Now, I can't decide should I maybe replace the 120.1 radiator from the kit (I think it's blue BlackIcePro) with the 120.2 (dual fan Thermochill 120.2 or HWLabs Black Ice Xtreme2 Radiator 120.2). How much this will improve the cooling performance and is it worth it at all ? I can easily mount the 120.2 in the Radbox outside of my case ... so space is not the issue. If I decide to buy the 120.2 rad what fans would you recommend ? (I was thinking of 2x Panaflo 120mm FBA12G12H @7V). As you may suspect, I would like to have silent setup! Is it true that for large radiators (like Thermochill 120.2) high CFM fans are required for the optimimum performance? Is the BlackIce Pro 120.2 optimum soluton than, because it should work OK with lower CFM fans? Also, which barbs should I use ?? (Swiftech kit is using 1/2 OD tubing, can I use the barbs from the kit?) I'm just little bit concerned because of the ammount of heat generated from the Prescott and NVIDIA 6800 GPU and if 120.1 radiator from the kit will suffice ??? MCP350 is the newest pump and in reality, a restrictive loop is where the MCP350 should shine!! High head pressure = less flow rate drop as restriction increases. So even when the MCP350 has little flow rate, it would still perform same or even better then MCP6650 in a large loop?! That's already too much questions ![]() Thx |

I would definitely go for a 120.2 rad (maybe even 120.3). If you're looking for a silent setup a BI pro II or pro III with some low CFM fans would be best. For maximum cooling you should get a BI Xtreme or Thermochill with powerfull fans (like Panaflo or Sanyo Denki).

I can get quite cheaply BI Pro II (120.2) and it should fit the kit perfectly (I think that I can even use the same barbs from the kit). When talking about the maximum cooling with the much powerful fans and radiators (like Thermochill 120.2), what type of noise/performance ratio should I expect compared to silent BI pro II (120.2) ?? Oh yes ... because I will also cool 6800GT with the MCW50 kit (with the 6800 adapter kit). It doesn't cool the DDR3 so I suppose that I can use my Tweakmonster BGA ramsinks for the memory (I have 8 of them) ?? or even stock ramsinks (that black one with the heatpipe)? |

A few comments:
Depending upon your system, it may be easier to just add a second MCR120/Black Ice Pro rather than buying a BI Pro2 or Thermochill 120.2. The MCP350 is going to deal with the added restriction well enough; in many systems it's easier to fit 2 120mm sized radiators than it is to fit one 240mm long one. Re: fans and undervolting. I would recommend for you to be honest about which is more important: noise levels or performance. Then choose a fan to give you either the most airflow for a given noise level or the desired performance. Undervolting more powerful fans will leave you with more noise at a given performance than a fan that was made to run at that lower power in the first place. BI Pros vs. Thermochills. I have a Thermochill 120.2 and a BI Pro2 and they are both nice radiators. If I were using quiet fans (e.g. Papst 4312s or undervolted Panaflo L1As) then the Pro2 will probably perform a little better. If you are going to use the louder fans then you should get better performance from the thermochill. |

Sorry to hijack the thread.
Since I'm planning to do something similar (upgrading radiator), I was thinking whether it's worth upgrading from the Hayden 676 to something like BI Pro, BI Extreme, or even heatercore? When you say sufficient flow is needed across thick radiators like BIE and heatercore, what fans do I need to get sufficient airflow across the fins? |
