Default Intel's new 130W cpu

http://www.tomshardware.com/hardnews...17_225242.html

It's getting ridiculous. Imagine the size of the heatsink required for one of these.
Liquid cooling will HAVE to become standard if power comsumptions rise any further! :-)

Not only that, can you imagine how in the world mobo manufacturers are going to be able to deliver *clean* power at fluctuating current levels up to 125 amps? They skimp on the power filtering as it is!

i thought intel was recognizing the value in low power cpus.... (hence tejas being discontinued and more emphasis on pentium m)

oh well, i suppose this is good for pc watercooling... or at least those in the business...

makes watercooling in OEM pcs more believable

edit

i just really woulda thought with SFF and home theater these days booming intel was reverting to more efficient cpus ala Pm

oh and power supplies...well as long as it's "good enough"
-makes overclocking trickier and trickier

If I could heat my house with 130 watts, I'd be spending a heck of a lot less on oil... I'm more interested in the power filtering.. maybe we'll see more add on boards like Gigabyte is offering now for an extra 3 phases of regulation.

My 20" converted sun monitor + htpc keeps our living room disturbingly warm; its actually hard to cool down at times.

13% more power than a prescott - hmm, wonder what their temp ceiling is for reliable life...

I'm surprised intel won't put more money in to developing the pentuim m series. so much performance for so little power.

Incandescent light bulbs release 90% of their energy as heat - a 150 watt lightbulb would do a better job of heating your room than a Dual Core Pentium Processor

Holy crap and just imagine their mobile offering. What at maybe 100.......either melt your plastic laptop or burn your head with a metal case on your lap........

Its actually virtually 100% unless your house is made of glass or other transparent material. Regardless, the power regulation in a modern processor isn't remotely near 100% effcient, and most hard drives and motherboards do require power to operate.

Makes me glad i chose an epia for my little server. Something like 25 W at full burn for the motherboard + 1 GHz CPU

Not exactly the same performance but still

http://www.tomshardware.com/cpu/20041114/index.html

(warning: the following includes a bit of irony, wich may be offending to sensitive persons)

This whole topic doesn´t seem to be an issue. If the processor goes too hot it simply slows down to cool off. A damned expensive way to get a slow processor.
