They're XTreme this time.
http://www.asetek.com/default.asp?sh...on=1&menuID=-1 These look to be using the same wb, black ice extreme 1/2/3 rads, and new 12V pumps with integrated res. The pump/res is a good idea though I haven't actually gotten a chance to look at this implementation. The other good thing is that Asetek is apparently lowering the prices of the complete kits to whatever C137.00 (exc VAT) is. That's always good for us, right? In unrelated news, I am waiting for feminine hygiene products marketers to latch onto the XTreme naming convention bandwagon. I can imagine a mom and her daughter in a walk through the park talking about their menstrual cycles when all the sudden some American Gladiator woman or a female professional wrestler runs in and drop kicks them and then we are introduced to Kotex XTRME!

Thought you were going to announce some review of this stuff, or of any other watercooling related products.
Maybe the fact that HWLabs is preparing to launch new radiators (X-flow), helped to bring down prices on the present ones - assuming they'll discontinue (some/all) of their actual line. |

Those kits suck. €318 exl. VAT sucks. Asetek sucks?
![]() They expect me to pay $459 (current exchange x 21% VAT) for a Whitewater ripoff, a radiator of which we know there is a better version coming, 6 OEM fans, a modded Hydor L35 and crappy VGA/NB blocks with 90 degrees elbows? Oh, I almost forgot, $459 will get me street respect, bragging rights, low noise with 6 extra fans and absolutely the best performance there is without giving any numbers. ![]() Last edited by RaptorRaider; 07-06-2005 at 03:09 PM. |

Hmmm, I seem to be a little confused by the wording of Phaestus's post, and what's at the link.
Isn't the €137.00 version just the "promotional" kit price, for the kit as listed at this page: http://www.asetek.com/default.asp?sh...n=2&menuID=505 With an 80mm Black Ice Pro |

Cathar,
Asetek has two kits included in their promotion: one with a 80mm rad (Black Ice Micro) and another with a 120mm rad (Black Ice Pro). About Phaestus, what's puzzling is the meaning of his comparison between Xtreme (normal/everyday people) and some new-comer Kotex Extreme (an american wrestler, no less). |

Kotex Extreme was meant to be humerous. They are in no way involved in watercooling or wrestling (LOL, I didn't think I'd ever have to explain that!) The comparison was only to show the desperation of some companies in labeling their products "extreme".

In the US, everything from energy drinks to potato chips to cars to water cooling kits are marketed and sold with "XTREME" tacked onto their name with an edgy and in your face ad campaign. It's ridiculous and stupid and has gone on for some time now. I mean really how XTREME can a water cooling kit be? It's going to kick my ass if I say something bad about it?
As for the price I have to concede that I didn't look that closely at the promotional kit but it seemed like a pretty big price drop at least.

It does go in line with the price drop of black ice rads. The next thing that contributes to the price drop is the pump they bundle the kit with.

hmm I guess if you cooled with 200 proof everclear instead of water then that'd be marginally more extreme. I'd probably add a tap at that point

I'm looking forward to the VapoChill Micro thermalsiphon product. For under $50USD, it can cool a CPU up to 150 watts!
It beats WC'ing since no tubes nor pump is needed. From what I understand, it uses R134A or R152A coolant. The coolant boils on the plate, turns to vapor, cools and then hits the boil plate again. This should be a real winner. I've seen a thermalsiphon working once in a college science lab. The internal workings are awesome! Stev |
