I have two aqua via 1300 pumps left over from a previous project and was planing on using them in an upcoming watercooling setup. I have a PA160.1 and a STORM waterblock. My question is where to put the pump in the chain. I was thinking of putting them in series one before the rad and one after. Would there be a more optimal position for them?

After the cpu cooler but before the radiator.
This way they should not be pasing on their heat to the cpu. Seris will probably be better |

If I remember correctly, the temperature change between inlet and outlet of your waterblock is at most a degree or two. Considering that the pump creates a fraction of the amount of heat your CPU creates, temperature differential between the inlet and outlet of your pump should be immeasurably small. The only time order of components really matters is when you have a reservoir in the loop, which you do not.
So you can put them in whatever order you want. However, I would imagine the best order when you consider logistics, is radiator>pump>waterblock>radiator. It doesn't really matter though. Just do it however you can use the least amount of tubing without it kinking. The order isn't really important. EDIT: I just noticed you're using two pumps. Just treat it as if you're using one pump and route the outlet of the first pump to the inlet of the second. |

But couldn't you sell those two via's and get a mcp655 and break even? Would be easier to route and you'd have better performance. Doubt two 1300's would have the same head or greater than a mcp655. |

Temperature change component to component is even less than that:
http://www.overclockers.com.au/wiki/...ithin_the_loop The only issue I'd have with a pump straight to another pump is turbulence in the flow. Othewise, with a storm, I'd definately go series.
