Undoubtedly you all know by now that
Hardware Labs has had their site under revamp for quite a while in anticipation of their new improved 2nd generation radiators which are to replace all their current radiators. Exactly what these radiators are like, has been shrouded in mystery...
Well, these new rads have finally been revealed in a sneak peek by Nokytech (a good site for cutting edge news)
here!
For those of you that don't speak French, they will come in three sizes: 1x120, 2x120 and 3x120; and in three colours: black, blue and Ferrari red. Photos reveal that they sport screw-in barbs, screw-threaded M3 mounting holes for the fans, and more fins.
Particularly of interest are the dimensions: the plenum chambers are considerably smaller and Hardware Labs state that despite having Xtreme levels of performance, the radiators now have Pro dimensions (1" thick), thus allowing for less airflow resistance and lower CFM fans.
We indeed know (don't we?) that when using the same CFM fans, the Pro radiators actually perform the same as (or sometimes better than) the Xtreme radiators because their added thickness (nearly 2") increases airflow resistance (the specs on Harware Labs' site assume a rather theoretical 100CFM airflow through each rad; this is harder to achieve with Xtremes than with Pros). This means that the new G2 rads, with Xtreme capacity but Pro dimensions, could have nearly twice the real-life performance of the Pros/Xtremes... We can but hope and see.
