Okay SNAP 4100 types, got a couple questions for you. Other than another SNAP unit I might be able to get (Yes, David, this is different), I been looking at a 4100 that is in need of some parts I think.
First, the front Bezel of the 4100. Are they available? Hard to get? Expensive? Second, a drive plate? I have never seen a 4100 other than in pictures, but it looks like the drives mount to a small plate (4 of them?) and then that plate mounts to the case. Is this correct? If so, how available are these plates? Expensive? Etc.. The unit I have been looking at does not have any drives plates (if they even are needed) and no front bezel? Bad investment? Easy to correct? Thanks in advance for the info guys.... |

Yes, there are four plates that the drives mount to.
I honestly don't know how easy it is to track down a front bezel or the drive plates for this unit. I haven't seen them around anywhere, not even on ebay. There is some place that is selling off snap motherboards and power supplies, they might have something, I just can't remember the web URL. I think that Blue knows it though... The parts you need shouldn't be that expensive if you can find them, and I don't know that you NEED the drive plates. It is nice to have a firmly mounted drive, but I don't think that it would be the end of the world if the drives weren't secured as long as the snap isn't moved around all the time. Heck, I could even send you some pics of the drive plates and you could probably come up with something on your own. The front bezel is purely cosmetic. Not having one won't affect functionality at all. Hope this helps!

That place you were talking about (I had the link and checked them after you reminded me) had the front bezel for $25. No drive plates tho. How complex is the drive plate? The 4000 Drive mounts hold 2 drives each and are pretty basic (easy to duplicate if you have to). Also, is the bottom of the case flat? If so, maybe some stand-offs and new holes drilled in the bottom of the case, then mount directly to the case? It would not be moved around at all, but being a hardware kinda guy, not mounting a hard drive gives me the willy's.
On the same note, sorta, anyone know where a guy could get drive sleds (caddy) for a SNAP 4200/4500 without buying the drive with it (from adaptec)? |

I am using a faceless, sledless 4100 I bought as well. The standoff idea is about as good as any idea. The sleds basically lift the drive off of the bottom slightly. I may try this myself as I have had this unit for two years and have not sucessfully located any sleds but I have seen pics. The trouble to fabricate them is not worth the trouble compared to your idea. Yes, the bottom is flat. The sleds have one nut on the front center as evidenced by the studs present.
