Greeting and salutations,
I have a snap 2200 and have, up till now been using it on a weekly basis as a backup hard drive. A little while ago, I moved the computer to a new location, and since, Ive not gotten the server online. Now, all the lights still light up, and there are no funny noises or anything, so logically, I think its some sort of software issue. Whenever I try to map it, I get a message saying "The Workstation Driver Is Not Installed". Mind you, I havn't a clue what driver it's talking about, and dont remember how I got the server working in the first place. I know I had some trouble, as I never recievied a manual of any kind. I am running the 2200 through a macintosh Airport router, but i'm using WinXP Home. The router is not the issue. I used a linksys before and got the same problem. If someone could help me with this, I would GREATLY appreciate it. I would like to inform you quickly, that I know very little of networking, never even had a router till a year ago. Reyak Post Script: I asked on another forum, and someone told me to reset it. I did, to no avail. Last edited by reyak; 10-08-2007 at 06:39 AM. |

You probably need to run assist to locate the snap and do a initial setup. Reseting it reset the IP to 0.0.0.0 , assist will locate the drive and allow you to assign a IP address. All files are still in tact, just lost the IP is my guess.

I dont have Assist, and am having trouble looking for it. I have Manager. If there isn't a difference, I have another problem. Nothing shows up in manager. On the left pane it says "servers and groups" and "all servers", on the right pane it says nothing at all. I try to refresh and get nothing again.
As for reseting it, I tried resetting the IP, and then reset all. nothing happened, though both worked, the lights indicated such. I have also tried to login to the config and debug via http but get a "problem loading page"...I guess this thing doesnt take voice commands? lol. "WORK! WORK, i TELL YOU WORK!!" ![]() |

Once you reset the IP it goes to 0.0.0.0 This is not a viewable address. Snap wrote there own protocol to locate and do the initial setup using Assist.
Contact Adaptec via email and request Assist for the Snap OS. They should provide you a link for download.

Alright, no problem. Actually, there is one, I go to the site, look for contact, and it asks me what server i've got. Well, I have a 2200 server#810117. Too old, I cannot email them. Won't even list an address. Any ideas?

You might be able to use the Assist program for the Dell 705N. It's the same software, but you'll need the correct Snap SUP file if you need to reload the OS.
Just go to the Dell website, do a search for 705N in Technical Support. Click the Drivers and Downloads link. The last version that they have is the one listed as Dell PowerVault Assist, v. 3.4.790, A05. They also have the SUP, but it will only work on Dell models, not Snaps. |

Recheck your cables. There are 2 LED's that give you status of the network & activity. If you do not have a solid LINK LED ON you do not have a valid net connection. Make sure you are using a std cat5 cable and not a crossover cable. Unplug the connections and see it it goes out. Better yet use a different port and cable. The Dell Assist will work just fine.

ok, ok, ok. I figured out a really big issue....sort of.I wasnt getting an ip address. basically, the server was working, but not connecting. I TOOK OFF THE COVER, and its all connected and stuff. Now, however, I am left with my original problem.
I did the assist setup. its fine. I did the snap web setup. its fine. It's even logged in with its very own ip address in the Linksys web setup. Now, how do I get it mapped so I can access its files? I still get the message; "The workstation driver is not installed" whenever I try mapping it. am I this big of a dufus? |

If your using XP use add network share. Use the IP address/share instead of the //servername. Using the IP it should allow you to browse. To map a share it is under "Tool" from window finder.

ok, I
1. Add Network Place 2. Enter the server's actual IP Address here is where it stops working. If I; a. Hit Next it says "The folder you entered does not apear to be valid, please choose another." b. Hit Browse I can browse all the way past 'Entire Network', past 'Microsoft Windows Network', past 'Workgroup', all the way to 'Snap810117'. Here, I can do nothing. I cannot 'Make a new folder', it tells me to pick a new location. I cannot hit ok, the option is a dead button. I am assuming there should be some sort of /shared folder in that directory somewhere? It keeps asking for one, but not allowing me to simply make one. I have a shared folder, but it's not in that directory. |

I think someone solved it at this posting;
http://forums.procooling.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=14108 Unfortunately, I have no idea what "debug" program they are talking about. |

First can you access the 2200 normally? if so connect ti the share proir to mapping.
If you do not have any share created, you must do so prior to mapping a drive. It will not allow you to slect the entire 2200. Is the 2200 on a different subnet? Is your MS workgroup the same as what the snap is? Once changed. You need to reboot the snap. Then reboot the pc after the snap is up. To access the debug for the snap os is in the FAQ's and wiki.

God this is fustrating. Ok, I have one workgroup with 2 'servers' on it. one is my actual server (snapxxxx) and the other is my hard drive name. it's nothing. I called it up before when I had my computers IP and thought it was my servers. Anyway, whenever I try to share a folder, it gets shared in the regular computer one, and not the server....also, oddly enough, I can map the other one and it comes up as a mock drive. Ok, in as a directory listing, I have My Network Places - Entire Network - Microsoft Windows Network- Workgroup - Quote:

Are you using MS login on the pc? If not you are not logged into the server as a valid user. Make sure your XP user name matches the server to make it easy.
