Ok fellas I my boss just purchase a snap 14000 through ebay, snap boots up and gets IP and when I log into it goes to "Snap Server * Recovery" page and from doing some reading I understand that this is because there's no OS and previous owner wiped hds. I have another 14000 server in good working condition but I don't have Guardian OS cd. I have created an "SnapDRImage" file to use with new snap and have checked the reinstall and have pointed to DRImage file and after it finishes and says operation successful completed it goes back to "Snap Server * Recovery", I have removed all HD and inserted two of the other working snap into it and restarted server and it keeps coming up to same page. What can I do to get it going? Working server has GuardianOS 3.1.079 and I a CD called NetVault for GuardianOS Version 7.1 Server and Client software and documentation. One last thing I have also tried to get it to come up using the assist program but I'm unsuccessful.

If you have the original CD's that came with your other 14000, the gsu file may be on the Client software. This is the file needed to do a clean install.
What you are running in to is, they removed the drives without resetting the unit to factory settings. So It is looking for the original drives. The SnapDRImage (Diaster recovery image) is reference to the original drives, not yours. You can create a clean OS boot drive from your other unit. To do so you must disable AV and stop SnapShots. Then power down the unit. Install a NEW (clean) HD into one of the slots, pref drive 2. Power up the unit, you will see the new drive be loaded with the OS by the led, will lite for ~30sec. Total time on a 4500 is ~5-6 min. Then power back down and remove the new drive. Then power backup and and replace the removed drive (hot swap) should start resync. Now install the new drive into the newly purchased 14000. It may are maynot boot from it. Andy may know of a way to get by the diaster recovery screen, with only a loaded HD.

I wrote an email to adaptec and they send me a link to download SNAPOS_34807 file and tried to up load from the Recovery page and did not work. I did what you said to power down my old snap and remove all drives, I installed one of the new blank drives in slot 2 and when I booted up in came up to same page as new snap, I tried to upload file from adaptec and didn't work I kept on getting error saying "fail to fetch file", anyways I rebooted and on snap screen I get this message ****RAMDISK****, SNAP NAME, IP address, MAKING TEMP RAMDISK, it's been doing this for the past hour, I'm gonna let it go and will check up on it when I come in tomorrow morning. By the way the working snap had 12-250GB drives total 3TB and new snap has 12-185gb.

What ever Andy says....
![]() I thought we were working on a Guardian unit... Did I loose the program...... if Snap OS, you can not back up the OS if Firmware based, without factory software. Now depending on firmware size it could be either one.

I tried installing a blank drive to slots 1-3 of old working snap and booted up, I came across same page that I came across new snap which is the ****Snap Server * Recovery**** page and could not install/repair/upgrade OS, so what I did was to bootup with working drives that it had which aloud me to get into the setup/backup and other features and then I swapped the drives with the new blank drives from new snap and was able to see em and format and create shares, then I was thinking since I got em to run then all I had to do is replace the hds to new snap and boot up but keep coming to same Recovery page.

If you are able to get to the admin gui. You need to terminate all scheduled Snapshots, and disable the AV (snap extensions). Then do a reset to factory settings. Then reboot and see it if comes up clean. Once this has been cleared it should boot up cleanly.
On Guardian OS Units, If working properly corectly, will transfer the OS to clean HD's if cold booted or hotswap. The difference if hotswaped it will automaticaly start the repair (resysn) process. So if you want ot transfer the OS and have AV and SnapShots off it allways best to do a cold boot. The power down and do the drive swap. If going to a new unit you only want the boot drive in slot 1, NO other drives installed. Once the unit is up, you can then hotswat the rest of the drives. If you have the GSU's you can always use the recovery page and use the clean install option. Or proceded with diaster recover using DRI and SnapShots to restore the unit. This is where the SnapOS and Guardian OS differ. You can not hotswap a SnapOS unit. And GuardianOS prefer HOT Swapping.

Ya know, I was thinking on this one a little and something hit me. Uh, Snap OS? I know the 12000 has a SNAP OS and Guardian OS version, but isn't the 14000 a Guardian unit only? Someone? Anyone?
