Default Cpu temp. on AXP and new WB

I got new cpu yesterday AXP 1600+ (agkga-9 week 49), and I put it in my good old Abit KT7a raid r.1.1. I mannage to OC to 1628MHz @ 2.1V . Temp. are 34°C with Seti load and 35-36°C with Toast load, water temps is 22°C. This is the homemade WB I used

Too bad I didn't get better cpu , because this cpu code is not the best one right?

With a 220mhz overclock that is good for any stepping with a XP. That is the same steping as my XP1600+. I have only messed with FSB and hit 150FSB at 1575 at 2.0Vcore. If I unlock it I know I can break 1,600mhz. But it runs great where it is now. The Epox 8K7A blows away my Abit KT7A performance wise. The DDR really helps. Benches about 25% faster. I stuck a Duron 700 in the Abit and now have 2 Epox 8K7A's, one with a Duron 1gig Morgan at 1125mhz 150FSB, and the XP1600+@1553 currently. All crunchin SETI.

Default Update temp.

Hi
I was little dissapointed with temp, becasuse I know what was I getting before with Tb, so I remove WB and found out that WB wasn't placed very well on the core, I aply thin layer of AS and again secure the block to the mobo and this time tighten the screws a little more (btw I use shim). Same freq. same voltage new temp. 29°C at full seti load, now that's good I believe.

I also didn't unlock my XP and it runs 10.5*155, for the stepping I hear agoga - y week 50, 51 OC. very, very well. And yeah I know that ddr helps a lot, but for now I'm stuck with KT7a. What average time do you get crunching seti, I get 3.5h which is good for sdram right?

I wouldn't say DDR helps a lot - 15% maybe. If you have SDR now it's probbly not worth it as current ram technology is at the end of it's lifespan anyway.

I was also thinking of skiping one generation of memory tech. (ddr)

DDR333 is just coming out??? PC2700 and PC3000. It's well over 15% from my experience. Last year I ran these boards:

MSI K7T Turbo-R SDRAM
Asus A7V SDRAM
PC Chips M805LR SDRAM
Abit KT7A SDRAM
Epox 8K7A. DDR

The 8K7A smokes those other boards with the same CPU at the same speed. I was skeptical at first but It was well worth it at the time. I paid $65 for the 8K7A's and $20 for the DDR Ram. Now the board's I can still get at that price but DDR has trippled in price. But SDRAM seems to have gone up aswell.

It was actually cheaper at one point to go DDR but that has changed again.

In any event why bother overclocking at all if 15% isn't worth it????

Overclocking is fun, blowing all your cash on memory is not... at least for me.
As for the more than 15% it varies on what you use your comp for significantly. If you do a lot of 3d work say in 3dsmax or similar it's going to give more improvement than say gaming (as games tend to use a lot less RAM).
PC3000 is really pushing the edges of the technology, they can;t go much further with it, it needs to be redesigned. The other major limiting factor is motherboards. It's getting to the point that they can't make motherboards faster (or we'd all have 200MHZ FSB or so) because the interference and crosstalk on the traces is too much for higher frequency. A new memory architecture is quite likely to co-incide with new memory being introduced.

Not any time in the next year from what the road maps look like. I upgrade my 3 comps every 3 months so the best I can afford at the time is what I buy. I only have 1 SDRAM system now and that is the Abot KT7A system. The only reason I still run that is because I don't want to pay $100 for DDR at the moment. I already have a 3rd 8K7A that needs a minor repair and it is good to go. Just need another stick of DDR.

Also it has nothing to do with the AMOUNT of ram, it is the speed of the ram. UT framrates went from 80fps ave to 100fps ave just by changing to a DDR system!!!

agoga is the stepping of all the new 1900+ and 2000+ cores, I think you have had good luck to get that core.

also, with those lower temps, are you able to overclock more?

No I couldn't overclock much more it work 10.5*156 but it's not 100% stable, my memory is the limit. And I'm not going to unlock the cpu, because I'll try and sell it and get agoga - y stepping Xp I currently have agkga -9.

can you run at 133:100 ratio with your ram, this will give you less performance obviously but it should allow your cpu to run a lot higher
