Hey dudes I won't be around as much for a little while. My computer won't boot into Windows. I've spent 2+ hours on the phone w/ MS tech support and they've concluded that something busted my windows and that they need to send me a new CD (and nobody around here has one... ugh...) and that my current one is shot. So i'll be without a computer for a little while. I don't know how i'll be able to stand it! ARGH!

Uhh you called MS support??? I thought you were a geek of sorts. There is never a time where you need to call MS for workstation stuff... if its broke you fix it, reload it or something. If you were running that god awful OS windows XP then its no different, reboot, format, and reload with W2K ![]() and you mean to tell me NO ONE in your school has copies of windows, and a burner?? you live with all jocks or something who never seen a PC before???

It seems like most geeks are thieves though... The bottom line is that I own XP and I'm getting a new LEGAL copy. As far as my calling them, yeah I know... can't believe I broke down. But they were having me try stuff that I wouldn't have even imagined though. I waited no minutes whatsoever and they were nice guy so bravo to MS in that sense. But I can't reload WinXP cuz I guess there's a corrupt file on my CD. I dunno whatever. It's pissing me off... I'd format the computer and stuff, and load my copy of Win98, but i have some VERY important data that I need to extract. I will end up doing a reformat, but not until I can save all my stuff.

Yah I was able to do that today. And yes I know dos very well... but a college dorm is filled with people who are too scared to open their computer. I finally backed up my data/e-mail to a bud of mine that I could convince to open up his computer. The HD actually just finished formatting. I gotta load 98 on it until I can get that new CD from MS.

Ok, your cd installed win xp the first time right? And if there are no deep scratches in it, then it should install again. Files dont work once off of a cd and then get corupted. Have U tried a new cd rom?
