Default tap water?

Hey all. I just recently went water cooled and was wondering if it's ok to put plain tap water in the system. Is there a chance it clog up the rad with minerals:shrug: If so is there any thing I can put in it or should I drain it and use distilled water?

you could put distilled water in it, let it run, and the drain it once more. then you should be good to go.

thx.

... with a well designed res/airtrap, bleeding should be painless (no pun intended). I filled mine up, and let it run, adding water periodically. No prob.

Check out http://forums.procooling.com/vbb/sho...&threadid=2985 for sketches of my setup.

Also, check out http://forums.procooling.com/vbb/sho...&threadid=3042 for info on the size of the res...

You should REALLY, REALLY add something to the water to prevent corrosion and funky stuff growing in your system. Even with distilled water you will end up with these problems, it might take a tad longer but you won't get away. Especially in case you are mixing metals in your system, copper&aluminum beeing among the worst, your going to end up with corrosion (oxidation) of the weaker metal (aluminum).

One word: WaterWetter

I'm running a black ice pro which I beleive is copper so no worries there but I do think I will run some water wetter in the system. I heard water wetter is hard on pumps is this true? Also can a person get water wetter at an auto or hardware store or do you have to order the stuff? Oh 1 more question. If I don't use some kind of adative will the water pick up a charge?

I'll just mention that I have a bong cooler here that has been running for approaching a year on tap water. Gets a cleaning every few months, but it isn't particularly dirty when I do clean it. Of course, the composition of tap water is different depending on where you are so beware!

I would say that tap water would conduct and transfer heat a little better than distilled water because of all the chlorine and minerals... but its really not worth it as it will speed up corrosion and stuff

Well I sit right on a natural aquifer so I have some pretty harsh water but I drained my system and bought some distilled water and some water wetter. All should be good now

for god's sake man put a fill tube or air trap or something in there! mine was so easy, and it worked so good, it was ridiculous. just a T fitting at the highest point in the system. the third end of the T has a length of hose, about 10" long, coming off of it. that's it. worked like a charm. filled up through a funnel, turned on the pump for a split second, filled up some more, let it run. come back every fifteen minutes or even longer to top it off. simple as that.
