Default ?'s about insulating with water chiller

Hey fellas, i got a water chiller on a deal i couldnt pass up. it should be able to produce -25C water so insulating is a must. I've read all the articles i can find on insulating but i still have questions...
1. what do you use to attach the neoprene to the mobo?
2. how far should i coat with conformal coating from the socket?
3. can someone post pics of their waterblock so i can get an idea of how to insulate it?
as i said i read alot of articles but they were all mainly geared for pelts.... i know using a chiller there is more to it than that i just could use some ideas...

thanks

Get ahold of MeltMan, He has LOTS of experience with condensation prevention.........

1. Waterchillers are not always, but very often, totaly USELESS!
2. how are you going to cool the waterchiller?
my suggestion, 3. Scrap the waterchiller, make a descent radiator watercoolingsystem, and take the Peltiers from the chiller to directly cool the cpu COre, produces MUCH better temps, promise.

your thinking of the wrong kinda water chiller. this is a mini phase change setup that is designed to cool a tank of water. not a pelt water chiller. so i dont have to cool the chiller..
I thought about that route but they seemed overly expensive to setup and run to me..

It's an interesting gizmo, but the question is, how fast can it cool the water?

Your unit should be rated in either watts or BTUs. Let us know, and we'll run the numbers for ya...

not sure on the rating but i think it took about 20min to get a galllon of water to below freezing. I'll see if the guy i got it from can give me the numbers...

20 min for 20oC to 0oC, for one gallon.

Given: One gallon of water takes approximatley 200 seconds to heat one degree kelvin/celsius with a 80W heat source
(as stated by Dix Dogfight here: http://forums.procooling.com/vbb/sho...&threadid=3501 )

or 3.33 min per degC
or 66.7 min for 20degC

Your chiller is about 3.3 times more powerfull, aka 264 Watts.

Yeah, that'll cool a CPU.

How big is it?

the resovior holds about 1 gallon and the unit itself is about the size of what you would find i a small chest freezer. i set it up today with my gpu block and after that 20mins it had a good 1/8" layer of frost over all the surfaces including the tubing

You'll have to insulate everything, including the tubing.

Insulating the tubing is the extra work required by phase change coolers, versus pelt cooling.

Here's a good link:

heres some better numbers.. in 20 min the temp of the water went from 72F to 21F or 22.2C to -6.1C and a time 30min.. so another 10mins its @ -15.0C

I'd just squeeze it between the mobo and the mobo tray. Shim it if you have to.

Just cut the neoprene a little smaller, and squeeze it. I've seen some people use tape all around, once the neoprene is in place.

well i'm testing my gpu block right now. I used 2mm closed cell foam with some spray type contact cement. using a sheet of the same stuff between the pcb and the block with a hole cut in the middle for the gpu. it appears to form a pretty good seal...

well with water somewhere near -5f (my thermometer doesnt go that low ) i'm getting some condensation on the outside of the foam on the waterblock... guess i need to glue another layer of 2mm foam on the outside....
