Default Air

I understand this is water.. but there is no Forum for this.
Ive got one word, AIR!
air cooling is the way to go, but there are more restrections.
if you use a vortex cooling system and a compresser out back (the down side is the compresser) you can cool a system like crazy.

Thermostat control / 15 SCFM
1/4"NPT/ air filter
900 BTUH (225 kCAL/hr)

lets get the cooling on

and also.. this little baby can make Cold air to -50°F (-46°C) from your compressed air supply -- with no moving parts!
be warned it can heat too....temps as high as +260°F (127°C) are possible.

heres how it works

Can you have the cold air coming out the 'hexagonal' end without heat coming out the tube?. it looks like you have to take both.
Is that some kina copper thing coming out the tube?, or is it an 'artists impression' of hot air?.
Have you run,or seen run, one of these thigs?. I'd imagine there's a fair bit of noise involved.

Can you put up a link to the manufacturers site please?...

Those things are HIDEOUSLY noisy, air is moving throughat close to the speed of sound. They are only recommended for industrial applications because of this.

http://www.arizonavortex.com/ is the link BTW.

EDIT : Noticed that the site advertises these things as "quiet", which makes me wonder what sort of crack they are smoking. I've seen one in real life and it's kinda like the sound out of a air compressor (which it is), but a lot louder (which is also is), they advertise air moving at over 25 times faster than the air coming out of the compressor.

well my father deals in this kind of stuff.. and i was looking around his website (www.iprocessmart.com) and i ran accross those. ive talked to him about it and he said some stuff about it but i cant remember. As for the sound they arent horribly loud... think of a compresser off... (about 30 pounds of pressure inside) and opening the valve... its not that loud but not something you want to listen to. I would say about 48 dba (here a fan at 48 dba here http://www.sidewindercomputers.com/l...FFB0812SHE.m3u ) They are mainly industrial but i dont see why you geeks cant use it. They can be pretty expensive too, but there are vests they make that you put on your body to heat/cool you. So if you have a compresser you can walk around being 60 degreess in your jacket and 130 outside.. they dont sell to people because they would freeze or cook their selves. If its 0 outside you could be 70 inside too check out the iprocessmart site for a little more info on some stuff
[edit]
you can also get cabnit coolers too, cool the hole inside of your computer case. Seen Here
but just look at this page
here and go to Compressed Air Products. And every item you buy feeds me!
[/edit]

o yeah and to add, you can get them with slincers. i didnt want to edit that other post again. But i havent seen one of those in use but im shure it helps... but if you use this you might have to run a tube from the out site to somewhere else, you can set up a valve to run it outside or heat your room that is if you live somewhere cold.

We used them to cool control cabinets on some installations. Perhaps it's just a trade name, but I recall them being referred to as "vortex coolers". In a prior job, my company supplied equipment to the paper manufacturing industry. This meant lots of PLCs, I/O racks, solenoids, etc. When the temps got too high, we'd use these to keep the cabinets cool enough. Of course your typical paper mill has 1000+ CFM of instrument (filtered and dried) air available. Siphoning a few CFM to run a few of these was no big deal. I don't recall them being exceptionally loud, but then again most paper machines run over 90dBA at a three foot distance.

Yah, lets trade in our relatively quiet WC systems for a horrendously expensive chainsaw sounding air cooler! The Delta fan from hell!

On a serious note, while this is less insane than liquid nitrogen, it's not very much less. It is easier to do phase change cooling to get this kind of result (do it professionally with a prometia or similar) without the sound, regardless of how loud it seems to any individual. Plus, wouldn't the cost of compressed air build up rather quickly?

On the other hand, the very idea of having a PC spitting flames like an afterburner jet exhaust is tempting enough for any hardcore, LAN-goer, modding frenetic geek.
I wouldnt be surprised if this thing showed up on VirtuaHideout CCG...

(edit) i suppose one would have to add some gas after the exhaust for it to ignite...

Oh yeah! a small tank of air (2000 psi), and a small tank of propane (75 psi) linked to the exhaust with an igniter, you'd be seen across any room!

Very portable, except by plane.

quoted from their cabinet coolers:
"Advantages [...] Quiet - less than 75 dBA"
http://www.iprocessmart.com/Exair/ca...olers_page.htm

yep, that sure is quiet ....

Ideas are always appreciated.

I have an idea, too. I think I want to string a really long network cable up to Canada where it is always frigid (it must be, cos this one canuckian gal I dated ... oh, anyway ... ), and bury my puter in the permafrost. Then, I can set up a dumb network box that runs remotely off of the buried box. That oughtta keep my puter cold ....

id say a little too cold.. then the snow is gonna melt and your gonna be screwed. Its gonna condense like crazy.. unless you figure a way to make the humidity level inside the case to be drasticly low... i dont think thats possible any way.

I'd be cool, but as people have said, they are so noisy and annoying that I am sure you would need to wear hearig protection any time you are around it.

Also, the cost of a compressor that can keep a constant high PSI flow 24/7 is more than a car in most cases. Other compressors would just burn up in a few days running 24/7. Not to meantion the racket the compressor would make!

Its a very cool technology, but meant for a very specific use in a very specific environment.

edit: and also... having a close to 300F Deg stream of air coming out of my computer doesnt sound nice to me... would suck to get 2nd deg burns just putting your arm behind your case!
