Hi, I am about to setup my watercooling kit, but would really like a flow meter. Does anyone know where to get one? Electronic ones like the innovatek would be great, but jst a fan spinning would be okay to. Thanks
Any info on cheap stuff post it! thanks Dave |

I bought a Lake Monitors electronic water flow sensor on ebay but I haven't looked into getting it to work yet. I remember seeing a spinning thing on a reseller website but there's to many for me to go randomly searching through now.

If you have some free time, build one! It's easy enough, all you need is a drill, epoxy, barbs, suitable case and broken fan.

Do you mean a flow indicator, rather than a flow metre?...
I believe RS make one in 1/2 & 3/8inch sizes. I'll look for a link...HERE!!: http://www.rswww.com/cgi-bin/bv/sear...quickSubmit=Go Here's a link to a forum were the dudes making an autoshutdown from one of these electrical flow sensors: http://arstechnica.infopop.net/OpenT...5&m=3040918135 Last edited by MadDogMe; 10-04-2002 at 04:06 AM. |

I tried finding the specific sensors on RS (cause the link died) and there were so many of them!, most were industrial and useless, but there was a visual one abit like the Inovatech 'Flowmatic' but 1/2 inch that looked very nice called the 'Rotorflow!!'
![]() This is my favorite though: http://www.rswww.com/cgi-bin/bv/brow...prodoid=268088 Last edited by MadDogMe; 10-05-2002 at 04:14 AM. |

I found a couple of useful ones on that site; a cool-ass flow indicator...
![]() (the metal bits are sold seperately and some accomodate 1/2" connections) ... and two flow sensors. This one ![]() operates on 5V and senses upto 20 l/min flow (a 300 GPH pump produces 18 l/min). It emits 750 pulses per litre flow; at 18 l/min that is 13500 pulses per minute; similar to a (admittedly very fast) CPU fan. Connections are 3/8". This one ![]() has 1/2" connections, runs on anything between 4.5V and 24V, and emits 23 pulses per second at 12 l/min flow. At the aforementioned 300 GPH (18 l/min.) that is 2175 pulses per minute, i.e. similar to a somewhat slow CPU fan.

I made a Flow METER out of an old case fan, some neoprene foam & some plexi. At normal flowrate it outputs about 1v.
This is a non-speed sensing Adda fan - water spinning it turns it into a generator. |

Here's an inexpensive one: http://www.drsfostersmith.com/produc...=6&pCatId=4532 .
![]() I don't know anything about it, just saw it when looking for pumps. |

Hmm, I need to work on a home-built electronic flow indicator...
