Default Distributed Computing...

Hey procoolers... I've been talking to Joe about creating some type of distributed team for ProCooling.. either folding, seti, UD, or whatever else. But we'll focus on one of them obviously. We're not sure as to how many people would actually want to compute for site.

Not sure as to what we would Compute because we would be way behind in the more established distributed computing projects like Folding@Home or Seti@home. So we may take up DistributedFolding.

Anyways... if we could get rough estimate of who (and how many mhz you could compute with) that would be a great help.

(BTW stop by the chat..)

i do about 18 seti units a day if not more when all 3 computer are on however the dual suffers from lots of heat and no money to make it water so it is not on all the time if we do a seti team then i have 3000 workunits allready to bring over

Most likely it won't be SETI@Home or Folding@home or even Genome@home becasue those three are the most competitive and it would be way too late to enter in, and think to make any real headway. The most logical choice would be something like the smaller ones like Distributed Folding, United Devices, or Find A Drug.

BTW I'll didn't list my comps to be folding:
Tbird 1.48ghz
Tbird about 1.4ghz
750 or so celeron
Celeron 566
G4 400
Imac 333mhz I think
bunch of friends computers that will be BORGed
and hopefully my watercooled folding (or whatever we run) monster project with at least 5 cpu that are at least 1.2ghz

Hey this is a nice link to every6 well known network project whether it be new or old. You all can look through the project6s, and see what would be fun and we could have a good start on.

http://www.aspenleaf.com/distributed...-projects.html

and this is also link you could check out. I'm doing a few projects, but i could donate my 1.8ghz p4 to the forum.

hehe i keep all my cpu's buff. Using your idle CPU time is a great way to stress test your computer for a good cause. There are tons of different distributed projects. If no one wants the job, I can be in charge of setting selecting a project on a vote, and making a statistics page. You all have to decide what kinda of casue you want: Math(like finding some very complex calculus things, or breaking governement codes for a chance at Cash), Science(Folding, Seti, find a Cure type stuff) many others that are good as well PLEASE CHECK OUT LINK (1) in my first post, it has all distributed projects catagorized...and it even shows you upcoming projects we could get a foot in the door on), Bussiness(use your comp to analyze stock)....or any other you can suggest. Some of the projects offer money for certain circumstances, so the more peopel we can get in on this, the better our chances....and the money can go towards improving the site or something else productive.

heheh

that's why I do the RC5/DES computations. You crack an encryprtion code and win $1,000!!

And it keeps my system busy while I am at work and always burning in my CPU.

Cant beat that!

I like the idea of Evolution@Home.. but I don't know how many agree with the evolution. The protein folding projects seem the most widely supported as everyone agrees we need a cure for cancer.. regardless of where the money will go once its created.

Ok which of these is a relatively knew project? We don't want to be moneths or even years behind (although with our superoverclocked comps we do have a nice advantage ; ) ) I can do a little research myself and come up with something. Also I need to know what I need to do once we decide on a project from a site mod. I need to make a simple little extension on the forums with the program download, and an explanation of what it does and how to join our group.

I just checked out evolution at home, and it seems cool. Plus we could easily catch up to the highest ranked groups if we could get our most dedicated users not counting anyone else. If we did get more than just the dedicated, we would easily be number one in a few months. Here is a link of the highest ranking groups....this is what we have to beat...it doesnt look too hard to do : ) http://www.evolutionary-research.org...ountTop20.html . Does everyone like "Evolution@home"? Again, we need a site moderator's permission to make a page dedicated to network distributing with info and a the download.

Don't worry about things like setting up a page and stuff.. I'm working that out with Joe himself.. Main thing is to pick a project.. and it seems like most people like a folding type of project because you can't go wrong with saving people's lives.
