Built a rad, what do you think ?

It's cooling the cpu the vga and 2 hd. Cpu (P4 2Ghz) @ idle is 32 C. I made it out of copper tubing and couplings from the diy shop. No soldering involved, hardest work was sawing the tubes. Only fan left is a temp controlled papst in the psu running at approx 1000 rpm. Follow this link to see some pics.

Neat ! Fanless, efficient.
What do your wife / relatives think of this big, copper thing ?

If you want to go to extremes you can get a fanless PSU...

I like it. It' a very clean job, no ghetto stuff at all...

For a stationary system, its great. Not so easily portable to lans.

And, fanless is the word!!!

That is frickin' sweet. If you had used copper U shaped connects you could have probably put twice as many vertical channels in it and forced the water to take a longer route through, though it would take one hell of a pump to power it! Nice and efficient, dude. You might consider hanging it on your wall as modern industrial art.

Yes indeed you got it. By making it all flow in parallel, the resistance is remarkebly low, my little eheim 1046 pumps it around easily! Also, I routed it in such a way (from bottom front to top back) that all water travels the same distance.

Put the radiator into a waterfountain wall thing. So like, water flows over the radiator

Only noise would be white noise.

But you may have to use the bathroom all the time

20 cents worth of solder would have sealed much better then those compression fittings. Not to mention cost! Around here I pay about $1 per fitting.

Still very nice work.

Because the tubing comes in and goes out of my computercase at just one point, so I would need a hose to get from the top left of the rad to the case anyway, and copper cools better then pvc hosing :-)

You're absolutely right. Would look better to. But try to solder in a one room apartment without balcony with the cat running around you. And one other nice thing: Now I can add more tubing whenever I feel like it. So when the need arises (new P4 4GHz?) I might just send you pics of an even bigger rad :-)

Som, if you want a quiet case, buy one from noisecontrol. They're quite simple, they don't have any nifty removable hd-brackets like those chieftec cases, but they are immaculately built, everything fits with great precision, the noisedampening material is applied on every square centimeter with great attention to detail. The effect on the noise is quite amazing. Sometimes I'm working on the computer when it's running, and when I close it, it eh, well, it's a bit eary, like something shortfused and it stopped running.
I don't own any stock in Noisecontrol, but I recommend buying a powersupply from them as well. Same quality, some effect on noise. Pity the cases don't really look so good, but next time I will buy one in black, which will look better then the generic gray that was available when I bought it.
