Please help a noob on WC.

Hi, everyone. I am first time here. I am switching to watercooling system instead of fans. This is my first time going for watercooling system. I was going for an all DangerDen kits, as i am going through the custom configerater, it gives me lots of confusions. I hope you guys will help me out by helping me choose the stuff. My budget is 300$ for the kit and i want to cool my CPU and GPU. Thanks.

Here is my computer spec.

CPU- P4 3.2 socket 775
Motherboard - Asus P5AD2 Premium
Video Card - Geforce 2 mx400 PCI (Geforce 6800 ultra pci-e coming soon hopefully)
memory - 1g ddr2
case - Thermaltake XaserV Damier V6000A + 600watt psu
250g hard drive, 16X dvd, 12X dvd burner.

Top Type: Lucite for clear, Copper for not clear. Apparently, lucite has a chance of cracking.

Chipset Blocks: If you want a block on your northbridge. For your first time, I'd say no.

Video Card Blocks: Maze4GPU Black 39.95

Fitting Size:
1/2 Fittings

Radiator:
Double Heater Core $35

Fan: Depends on how much noise you want. To be safe, stick to Panaflo's. Order either L1A's for low noise, M1A's for medium, or H1A's for high...with performance increasing respective to noise level.

Peltier & Neoprene: None.

Pumps:
D4 12Volt Pump $74.95

Tubing:
10 Feet Clear Flex Tubing $12.00

Reservoir:
Clear Cylindrical Reservoir $25

Thermal Paste: Arctic Silver

That's what I would do for options. It seems like a good enough system. Not sure if you'd be able to save some by not purchasing as a kit but the hardware is good. You also need a shroud for the rad. DD sells it separately for 16.

Thank you so much Moony! I will be ordering from DangerDen very soon. Now everything seems a bit more clear to me now. Gonna update the first post now. So what i have to buy is the kit and a shroud and if i am getting a BFG Geforce 6800 ultra with waterblock, then i don't need to buy a video card block, right??
What do i put in water for testing leak? Also, do i need to buy Y n T fitting?? Last, Is the Fan same as normal pc fans? Thanks.

no v-card block if your card has one
just put the water in, and put paper towels under the system (no motherboard), you'll see a leak
only a T-Fitting if you forgoe the resivoir. I have no res, and just a t-fitting
fan is the same basic principle

I would suggest not getting the Water Cooled version of the vid card. if you want to WC your vid card get the air cooled version and buy a block. The one that comes on the water cooled version will most likely have fittings for 1/4"ID hose and that would kill the flo of your setup.

No sense in paying the extra for the water cooled card and not having a block that will work well in your system. The dangerden block is expensive but does cover the mem. I believe that swiftech also sells a block that will fit the card and would be much cheaper but wont cover the mem. Since it will be a pcix card you will have to check the manufacture to make sure of block compatibillity.

First of all, I dont think the maze4 will fit on a GF6800, I am not sure though. If not you must go with DDs GF6800 block. I also second the suggestion to buying an air cooled GF6800 and using your own block.
Secondly, I cant seem to find the option for a TDX copper or brass top. It says RBX top on the site! Dont buy parts that dont fit together. I believe TDX brass tops are made by third parties, again I am not sure about this either.
Third, You are going to want to buy a shroud for that Heatercore. I DO NOT recommend the DD shroud as it is merely a means of mounting fans rather than a dead spot minimizer.
LAstely, I second the vote against a reservoir. A Tline will be much easier (less tubing) and wont crack on ya.
Great pump, great block, but dont forget to buy the TDX nozzle kit for better performance.

OK, i kinda get it, i will just buy a normal Gf 6800 and get my own water block on it. I am kinda of not sure for using reservoir or a T line, i don't know which one is easier to do for beginner. And last, Can anyone recommand what shroud to get for the double heatercore ??

I ordered something similiar to you for my AMD64. I am still doing leak testing though. I got the RBX which comes with the high flo nozzles and barbs when bought in the kit form. I also ordered the D4 pump, 5 1/4 resevoir, maze4 for my 9800pro soon to be x800, 7' tygon tubing, and single heatercore with dd shroud. I ordered the whole entire kit from DD and bought a panaflo m1 fan off of ebay for $11 shipped.

So a couple of things. I only had trouble setting up the RBX. The first time hooking it up I had a little leak because of two things. I didn't have a good enough cut on one of the tubes and I didn't clamp the tube close enough on the barb. So its slowly leaked as I moved the block around on my towel. I fixed it by recutting another tube and clamping the nylon clamps tighter.

Also another little problem. The DD 5 1/4 resevoir is hard to fill. I want to know how to fill this thing easier.

I am running the heatercore with a vantec stealth 120mm fan and the blocks are pretty cold to touch. I can't imagine how much colder it can get with the panaflo fan.

I posted this somewhere else, but here is my setup in my very cramped case. So I figured out if I make the tubing longer to my res I can pull it out of the case from the front and fill it. Then push it back in. I was trying to make the tubing as short as I could though. So thats something to watch out for when running the stuff in the case. Make sure to be able to move the res once its in there to fill it. And it needs to get tilted as well to get air out of it.
