Default arrg.... this sucks.

i having too much trouble with divx. i have the divx player from divx.com, have downloaded some other players, tried to install divx codecs for wmp, but still having problems playing a lot of divx files. the usual, sound no video, or it plays, no sound no video. do i have to do anything special to installed codecs? i dunno. i don't mess with this video stuff much, so some help would be appreciated.

"The Player" is an over bloated piece of crap!

The problem you're having is proably because of all these silly codecs that are out now.

Its hard pinpointing what video requires what.

damn....

really makes me wonder why there would be so many freaking differences.... i mean, there _should_ be a sensible 1-2 version standard, like everything else.

Nimo is your best bet...

its not an end all...cause I installed it...but I view so many different types of videos that Nimo can't cover.

Most common divx codecs you will need are right here.

Divx 5.02
Xvid
AC3 Audio
Divx 3.11 alpha for audio

Never have a problem after that.

Missing from that list
MP3 Audio
Indeo 5
MPEG 4v3

There is no common list really.

DIVX is about as common as you get.

If you download movies off the internet you'll need
DIVX
SmR
MPEG 4v3
AC3 Audio
Xvid
Indeo Everything
MP3 Audio

Forutnately Nismo has a good portion of these.

Oh...and MPEG 2 DVD codec...

But whatever you do...don't install Windows Media Player 7 or higher. If you're running XP...well...I guess you're stuck with it.
