So, what's good these days?

I'm a bit out of the loop on current cpu/mobo combo's, so what's good? I'm looking at at least 2GHz, possibly multiprocessor, with the option of water cooling without too much effort. Currently have a tbird with a maze2 on it, so something that could use the same block would be a bonus.

AGOIA and newer 1600+s are fairly regularly getting 1900MHz and above with water. Probably just a CPU transplant for you, and dirt cheap.

Was thinking new mobo/ram as I'm still on sdr etc. Also, what's good for dual cpu?
For an idea of what I'm thinking... single 2400+ or dual 2200+ looks about the speed/price range...

I honestly don't know if any of the MPX motherboards have been shown to work with the TBredBs. I have a single 2200+, and it is an inferno. It does near 2100MHz with water, but also runs around 60C diode temp! Apparently the 2400+s are a newer rev that no longer has this heat problem. I would splurge and go with 2400+ personally.

For dual motherboards, Tyan is the king of stability. If you are looking for more o/cer friendly mobo, though, I suspect that the Asus and MSI will have the best o/c features. Be aware that on the Asus you have to drill out the socket holes yourself (solder fills them). People have done this. I think the MSI board has the mounting holes and multiplier and fsb adjust, so perhaps it would be a good candidate. I have never been a huge fan of MSI, but I have not tried their dual AMD board either.

the msi only has 133,138,140,150 for fsb settings. it can change multi's, but only up to 12.5 IE your max speed is 12.5x150.

Buy 2x 1600+ AGOIA's, or 2x 2600+ (333) if you can afford them, and fsb overclock them to hell using the iwill mpx2. They reliably hit 180mhz +, without any problems. Mine will infact do 192 with a cooled northbridge.

Yet another question, anyone have experience of the 2600 vs the 2400? Is the extra fsb that worth it given the large price difference?

If you close 1 bridge then your XP becomes an MP.

AS for motherboards, I can't find the iwill anywhere locally, looks like it'll have to be one of the others.

Got 2 2400s and the MSI board, booted up... 1 cpu detected, scratched my head a bit, flashed the bios, it then decided I had a 2400+ instead of "unknown cpu", but still only one. More head scratching, re applied paint to the L5 bridges... 2 cpus detected.

Other than that no issues so far. And goddamn, it's quick.

One thing I have noticed is that CPU 2 seems to run about 6C hotter than CPU1, not sure why, I even swapped cpus/coolers over, and whichever is in socket 2 runs about 6C hotter. Maybe it's an airflow thing, or maybe it's just reading the sensor slightly wrong.
