Default New Prometeia?

Chip-Con has a countdown on their front page (~3 days to go last I checked) under a Get Ready! heading. The next thing on the page says they will be showing off the newest addition to the Prometeia family on April 23rd at NVIDIA's NVision event. Is it too much to hope for a phase change GPU cooler or will it be a supplemental watercooler like Asetek announced?

Well, with GPU's producing as much if not more heat than CPU's, a phase change setup could really do some good. Bring it on!

I wonder how hard it would be to make a dual head phase change unit for CPU/GPU use ... I'd buy one.

From the gossip I've been able to scrape up, I think it's just gonna be a new revision of the single CPU cooler. We'll find out Wednesday.

Sweet. When you start getting this cold, however, don't you risk damaging the parts of your machine? I know certain plastics are extremely brittle at low temps and some thermal goops don't function right at these temp. Also, could these temps potentially damage the processor packaging itself over time?

I know some people are using LN2, but that is just for a matter of minutes ... this would be for LONG TERM use. I'm just curious about the drawbacks. I'm hoping to use a kit like this (or a homebrew stirling kit if possible) in my A64 project and I'm trying to do a bit of research.

Yes, yes, and yes.

Two friends of mine have Prometeias . But they both have p4 , i believe that in an amd XP these effects appear faster. Besides, you can get condensation, leaks in the piping, frost burn plastic, etc. Even in a very carefull assembley ... both complain that it's killing the processor little by little. Each passing week the stability of the overclocked processor drops a little.

One thing they've tried and worked, was replacing the thermal goop with a aluminum grid thermal pad, works great even at those lower temps.

And also , even with good insulation, the cold still affects the motherboard through the socket and pin connectors. But i dont think its a real hazard to the mobo. Time will tell .

PS : I've read that it also in time creates moisture inside the package of the processor. Not sure about this.

Any thought that Over-Volting and O/C'ing the the living $hit out of a proc could be causing stability degradtion over time?

Also O/C'ed and Over-volted memory, which isn't being cooled by the Prometeia, could be the part of the drop in stability.

A very relevant issue. Could be. Never the less, having a prometeia to run things at stock speed it's a waste of time and money. The point of having such a cooling device is to "OC'ing the living $hit out of the proc" , while being able to deal, and maintain a "cool processor".

From the tests he conducted , he told me that the processor was loosing it's oc potential over time, and each couple of months he had to lower it's speed by a little. He didnt go into much details, but hey, i'm just "selling" what he sold me.

Here's a couple of pics of his system . He changed the ti4600 to the 9700pro and the memories since.

The memories dont overheat that easily. But you can always have a calculation of that .

A pretty decent spreadsheet, imo.
