windows, or my mouse?

i'm not sure if it's windows or my mouse, but all of the sudden windows decided that every single left-click is a double click. very hard to move windows around my screen when it just wants to resize them. it has done this off and on, but now it does it EVERY TIME. aaaarrrrrgh! anybody have any suggestions? i haven't found any settings yet, and they don't make drivers for xp for my mouse. very frustrating.

ok, it doesn't do it if i switch the mouse buttons. if i use right click for normal, the mouse works normally, but i switch it back, and it screws up again. grr!

I've had that happen before. I think I solved it by hitting the Windows key ... it was happening because something or other was selected and it was expecting an OK/Cancel or something like that (only happened once or twice). Hit the windows key, manually (keyboard) open a program, and then try your mouse. Win2K drivers normally work for XP.

I have it happen to me at least once a day.

At first I thought it was driver related, because I only used Logitech mice up until a while ago...but my IBM/MicroInnovations mice do the same thing.

The way I cure it, I randomly click each mouse button in an open space on my desktop and it goes away.

Oh yeah, I think this has been a bug since Windows 95.

aight. well, i tried all the ideas. xp doesn't respond to the mouse drivers in the least amount. they're 98 drivers. they worked ok in 2000 i think, but no go here.

tried all the stuff, it still does it. it's 99% double-click, very rarely does it do a single click. i'm going to try it on another machine to see if it's a hardware error.

i guess if nothing else i'm going to go with an mx700. it's been rather intermittant before, maybe it's just done.

this right-clicking for everything is just not cool.

ok, i was just thinking over this some more. maybe this attributes it more to hardware failure.

when i switch the mouse button operation, it still double-clicks the left mouse button (i.e. i swap the buttons in the mouse properties so left-click is right-click). that's how i've been using it lately, so it actually works. but it's really damn annoying.

but, if it was a windows error, would it still double-click the left mouse button? i suppose it could mis-interpret the hardware signal... i dunno. crap.

well, i couldn't get it to work, so i got the mx700, and so far am fairly impressed. i have to move the new mouse around more on screen, but it works fairly well. and the cordless part is nice. so, now the razer is going to be retired in my hardware hall of fame...

Try acceleration in MouseWare. It will increase/decrease the movement speed. Mine has two settings I use:

desktop: 1" = corner to corner
gaming: 3" = corner to corner

When I'm in Windows, I just barely twitch to move around ... and this mouse has the resolution to handle it.

Oh, and if anything does go wrong with your mouse (like starts double-clicking in the future), just call Logitech and say your batteries blew up: they'll send you another one for free without you having to worry about shipping the broken one back. Their warranty/RMA policies are unbelievably friendly.

You know, about those RMA policies, there was a thread on oc-forums about how a few guys were working the system. They went out and bought two MX700s and immediately called Logitech for a replacement complaining of detonating batteries. As soon as the replacements came in a week and a half later, they called in for replacements for those. In two months they ended up with like ten mice and hooked all their buddies up.

Some people are sick. This is why many companies make it harder to get an RMA than it is for a fat guy to get laid at a supermodel convention.

hrm, that's unfortunate. it is sad that a couple of people can ruin the pleasure and happiness of a million others.

well, i won't be exploiting their rma services, hopefully i won't need them. now if i can just remember to put in the rechargables at night i won't be eating up so many damn batteries... already gone through *2* sets!

That is the number 1 reason why I still stick with corded mice. I would hate to be in the middle of a game and then have the batteries start dying on me. I would much rather just use a cord and not worry about it.

I do acutaly have a Logitech cordless optical mouse and I must say that it is very handy to have around but I dont use it on my main rig. It is very handy for when I want to sit at my desk and work on a clients machine withour a cord running in the way.

yeah, that's a bitch.. had that happen once.

although the specs say this thing is good for 6 feet... so i ran around my house too see if it would quit.. and well i could only see my computer for about 15 feet and it worked out ok
