Opinions: watercooling your northbridge is STUPID. I did it, and I feel like a complete RETARD because I did it. My nbridge temps are CONSISTENTLY higher than they ever were even with the POS HS+POS TIM that came stock with my mobo. Any of todays high powered cpu's and gpu's will keep your water temp higher than a northbridge normally runs at.
Pumps: Eheim 1250: Pros: quiet, shielded magnetically, 317gph Cons: HUGE compared to other 300+ gph pumps, $$$$ Hydor L30: Pros: small, 300+gph, quiet Cons: No shielding, crappy compression fittings, $$$ ViaAqua 1300: Pros: smallest of the three, 370GPH, quiet, $$ Cons: No Shielding, runs ~1W 'hot' compared to eheim and hydor I've used both the eheim and the viaaqua (but NOT the hydor, I'm just going on what I've read and see in pictures). I would DEFINATELY reccomend either the eheim or viaaqua, but currently I am using the viaaqua. It has a higher flow rate, and it's much much smaller (good for my space constraints). I would also dare to say that the viaaqua is more quiet than the eheim, and doesn't vibrate as much. -Zoson

watercooling the northbridge is almost necessary if you plan on raising your front side bus to a relatively high speed. as far as a pump goes, whats the max head you will have? if youre planning on running 3 blocks and 2 rads, a pump with a lot of pressure would be ideal. stick with danner, ehiem, or iwaki and maybe the hydor, depends on what your max head is though. in a restrictive setup, pressure is the key.

I had to keep my VA 1300 a couple feet away from my monitor, otherwise it would cause the screen to flicker. However it didn't affect my Samsung monitor. Also, in my experience, the VA 1300 is anything but quiet, not only does it hum, it hisses and rattles. Although maybe the impeller mod would have quieted it down some. And yes, it did run quiet hot, it can raise your water temps almost as much as a CPU can.
If you've got the money, go for a Hydrothrustor or Custom Sea Life Velocity pumps. I have a Velocity T-3 right now, and not only does it have insane head capacity (28 ft) it is very quiet. For a setup with as many restrictions as yours, you might need a pump with high head. http://www.customsealife.com/NewFiles/velocity.html |

No, not destroy, just interfer with your monitor(s).
That seems to need a pretty powerful pump, but I'll go ahead and throw the Maxi Jet 1200 in here. It's 295GPH, and very cheap ($20 shipped), as in you could get two or four for the price of an Ehiem. Zoson brings up some vaild points, but I really wouldn't get a Via. They are very loud compared to other pumps; Ehiem is by far the quietest (although a well rigged pump of any brand is nearly impossible to hear). They're also considerablely warmer, and tend to break/leak. Maxi's will leak after a while, so either do the mod or use a res. I'm a big Maxi Jet fan if you haven't notices ![]()

I'm not sure what you guys are talking about saying the VA is loud... I have two of them here. One does rattle, but that is because I chipped one of the impeller blades, which is why I replaced it. Prior to chipping it, the pump was completely silent. It is also my experience that VA's are quieter and transfer less vibrations to your case because it comes with some nice rubber suction cups for feet.
As far as interference from the VA and monitors, as long as you have the coolant intake barb perpendicular to the side of your monitor you will have no problems. -Zoson

you may want to look at iwaki pumps... like the md20rz.
quiet, powerful, and low power consumption. a little expensive though. http://www.deepseagallery.com

pokpok: lots of people like Ehiems, for sometime thats all people would buy. Until people started to find other pumps like iwaki, little giant, and what looks to be another great example above, the Velocity pumps. The 1250 is probably a little underpowered for what you're trying to do. It's always easier to decrease flow on a pump, rather than having to buy a new pump cause it doesn't have enough flow. However, looks like the Velocities dump a huge amount of heat into the water? I have the Danner Mag 5, which only dumps bout 50watts. good luck ![]()

The Iwaki MD-15 would also be a good choice, 300gph and 11.1 ft. of head. And close to the 1250 in size. The Iwaki 20 & 30 pumps are even more powerfull, but also of huge size.
edit: Just checked out that Sea Life pump. While it is much shorter than a Iwaki MD-30 it is wider as well. It also has a 140 watt power draw. A MD-30 draws 115 watts and the MD-30Z has 36 ft. of head vs 28 ft for the sea life. The Sea Life does have a higher total flow at 12gpm vs 4.6gpm for the Iwaki. And that 30dba you can bet is taken with nothing hooked to the outlet, just as total flow is rated. Restricted to 3-4gpm as a cooling loop for a computer will do and it's going to be a good deal louder working that hard. From what I've read the MD-30 is considered to be on the border line of being to large. So the Sea Life would be even more over the top than the MD-30Z is thought to be by many. Continuously rated, the Johnson CM30P7-1 pump runs on 12V (just plug into your PSU), 2.2A, 26W; pumps 356 GPH / 22.5 l/min at 3ft. head.
Dimensions are 18cm long by 5.5 cm width. The only problem is the price... $179,-- i.e. £130,--. Ouch! And it gets a bit warm: 53C, but it is still possible to put it in a case without adverse effect on case temps. The big advantage is that it is tiny, and simply plugs into a molex. ![]() Whaddaya think?
