Default danner mag drive question

hi

i am new to these forums, in the form of posting that is, now i have been water cooling for about a year and i have always used a el cheapo rio 180, until it recently failed on me (i knew it would happen). so to replace it i ordered a danner mag drive rated at 500 gph, a would be huge increase for me even with adding 3/8 barbs, but it seems to have a problem. everytime i start the pump it rattles around for a few seconds, sometimes minutes, before it actually kicks in and starts flowing at its normal rate, i have done the impeller quieter thingy, and i am wondering maybe it is just me with my bad job on connecting those but it seems odd because it can take a full 5 minutes to get started sometimes, any help with this would be much appreciated

I think I know what is happening.

The mod you did to your impeller was the one where you superglue the impeller to the shaft so it does'nt have 180 degrees of movement. If so, thats the reason.

You see the reason that play is allowed on the impeller, is due to the low amount of torque the magdrive has. So the shaft/motor is allowed to speed up a bit before it meets the resistance of the ipeller/water.

Now that you have glued it together you have negated some engineers brilliant solution to a design problem.

Buy a replacement impeller/shaft and ur problem should go away.
