Default Adding Water-Nonsoluble "dye"?

Aynone try adding a non-water soluble dyed liquid into the mix? For instance, dyed mineral oil will not mix with water, but the little globules (which will get munched up by the impeller in the pump) could act as a visual indicator of flow in a closed loop system.

Besides which, if done right, it might look pretty cool...

Anyone have any ideas why this might not be a good idea?

Hehe....kinda like water cooling with a lava lamp

The effect might look pretty cool. I would be concerned about buildup of the dye in areas which could cause problems.

Sounds like either a chem E person is going to have to figure this out or someone with an extra system and free time to run long term tests.

How about you try it and give us the results?

it would just become a mess and coat the lines eventually

it would either sepperate to the point where half yer block would be filled with it and not water, and also you cant use a resevoir unless you use a chemical heavier then water.

I tried it just to see what would happen, using auto transmission dye.

The pump whips the oil & the water into a semi-foamy, cloudy mess that flows about like cold dirty engine oil & coats the inside of the system.

That was just through a loop of tubing. I hate to think what the mixture would do to the inside of a radiator or waterblock
