Default Got a big VW ac Radiator to try out lookin for opinions

hey doods, im new to procooling . Followed alot of threads in here and links across the web guess ive been doing homework on water cooling for some time.
Decided since florida is so darn hot and the quiet fans aremt cuttin it to take the plunge.

I Just got a buncha parts lined up to setup my first watercooled rig
One of em being this radiator i pulled outa a spare parts van i purchased a few months ago. Its part of a ac cooling rad from a '83 vanagon

heres a couple pics

looking for some opinions on the rad if maybe its to big for an 1048 pump. i got a good deal on the pump and a maze3 with the socket clamp on it (no mb holes) and plan on running a bay res and thats all in the loop for now. ordered half inch goods. suggestions on how to run the loop would be much appreciated.

as far as the rad goes i was gonna try using 3 or 4 very quiet 120's for airflow thru the rad and then lose my 90mm currently guetto rigged to an ax7 also get rid of a big ac powered 120 pabst in my case in the hopes ill end up quieter or as quiet with lower temps. the 90mm is the loudest fan i have and its not really a screamer at that. believe it or not sys is not to loud really just got heat buildup issues! which leads me to another question how long does it take for watercooling temps to level out? Dont wanna come home to smokin cpu

anyway any thoughts or tips would be appreciated

Sorry dude, first time I looked in. I'm surprised @ 120+ veiws and no replies as well  . Don't take it personaly though...

I'm not keen on those 'tube' kinda rads, personal opinion only though, I dont like the multitude of 180Deg bends!, you could get away with a heatercore inside the case easily, what's the one in the veedub like?, or don't you have heaters in Florida!...

Where did you mount the rad?...

PS, you into RC airplanes?. That's quite a sized prop in the bottom pic. I got an 'antique' 60's, 6ft wingspan DeHavilland TigerMoth I don't know how to fly , I got it to restore it originaly, it's that old doped cloth stuff on it...

Just I question, i am seeing that the colour of the rad is silver and the colour of the block is red. Is the rad make up of al and the block of cu?? If yes, better be careful how to mix up those two materials

trying out this heater core from the rear of the van in its original squirral cage.

It looks like an aluminum rad the other was copper pipes . what should i do to keep problems from occuring?

I don't know exactly how you can avoid it, certainly the best idea is to change the rad and bring a copper one but i think i'm asking to much.

Just ask around because there exist some type of liquid that you can put inside the water so that corrosion does not occur, but remember, the best thing is to never mix metals (except if they are alloys of each other)

Anti freeze is a start IIRC (I never used Alu & Cu), WaterWetter is supposed to do the same I think (or it might be algae controll )...

What are the temps with the HC?, is it doing much of a job?...

There's a sticky thread with loads of heater cores in here somewhere for US buyers, helps you find a HC by it's dimensions for easy fitting (all copper/brass)...

Redline Water Wetter is a galvanic corrosion inhibitor. Don't use anti-freeze, it reduces performance substantically. Water Wetter is available from DangerDen, cooltechnica..... anywhere that sells DD stuff basically, and it might be available at a local auto parts store as well.

I'm surprised the 1048 provides enough flow through that big rad. A bigger pump would probably help you some.

got rid of the antifreeze and picked up some super cooling liquid from the auto parts store smells funny but it dropped my temps 2c. getting alot of flow with the squirrel cage its got like 5/8 nips that i stretched 1/2 over so no flow probs.

all 1/2 inch tubin now lots of activity in bay res so it appears im getting major flow
