A few Copper bases i made today.....(pics)

The base material is 1/16" copper. These channels are .010" wide and 1/32" deep.

There is a 1/8" endmill there for scale comparison.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is the same as above with some extra cuts diagnaly.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Mini channel. Same .010" wide and 1/32" deep channels.

Same 1/8" endmill for scale.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Nozzel for mini channel base.

there is 1/32" from the bottom of the channels to the bottom of the base.
Only problem I have came across is the base thickness is to thin to tap. not sure where to go from here. I think I will solder on some brass sides...

These bases all tool 1 pass and about 2.5 minutes for the first one, 3 minutes for the second one and 1 minute for the last one.

I am working on REV 3.0 right now. have the peice in the machine and should be done by the time i am half way through typing this.

This time I am using 1/8" thick C110 copper for the base and modifing the Pyrmid Pin array I had in REV 2.0. The pins are taller and the channels go deeper. I am also making a Nozzel for this one today. This is my attemp to go after the White Water. Look for a thread called REV 3.0 This weekend. Only thing I should have to do when I get home is thread the barb holes and seal it up.

Just curious - you doing these with your mill at home, or your super-engraving tool at work (from Rev 2)?

Engraver at work. I told the boss I needed to send our bits off to be sharpened and he said we had a bit sharpener in the basement. I went down there and moved some boxes out of the way and sure enough! I sharpened up the .010 bit and the base came out awsome. A lot better than the REV 2.0 as the bit was dull on that one. I also adjusted for the offset and made the cuts deeper as the angle on the bit is sharper.

Bit style used: http://www.bitsbits.com/profilerpage2.html

I am tapping the holes in the base and have to cut the top peice out on the laser. After that I just need to lap the base (which I will do here today, tap the barb holes (tonight at home), and seal it up (tonight at ahome). The base looks great. That machine is just amazing how perfect it makes the cuts with such fine detail. Will have some pics up tonight or tomorrow of REV. 3.0.

Love these days when all the work orders are complete and no one bothers to come in as it is Friday.

I was talking about one of these the other day, did'nt realise you'd used one already! . I thought it'd be a good idea/place for people to get bases 'micro'~milled as one~offs...

I use it everyday at work along with the 80watt laser engraver. The best thing about it is the speed.

I have a brass plaque I was going to use as a block top. It apears to have been milled/'engraved' with a 1mm bit then again inside this 'channel' with a 0.5mm bit!!. Fixit sugested a one peice bit with two widths but the symetry of the two channels is wrong for this, it's definatly two different passes. Does your machine use, or is capable of using these size bits?. What's the max depth you can go with a tiny bit like this?...

They are $14,000 US with everything needed to go except the bits and computer.

It will run any size bit on this page: http://www.bitsbits.com/tipchart.JPG

Note: 0.005 Inches = 0.127 Millimeters (notice the decimal place)
