Default Northbridge cooling, Again.

Ok, so those of you who know my system also know that I've been battling with the issue of whether or not watercooling the northbridge is useful when it is contained on the same loop as a cpu, and a gpu. Well, today is quite a warm day in nyc, and of course my computer is running at a higher temperature than normal. This is also causing a drastic increase in my coolant temp, and now my northbridge is definately being heated by the 'coolant' rather than cooled by it.
So here is what I was thinking of doing. I have a stock geforce4 cooler here for the asus gf4ti4600. It's circular, and fairly large. It has an axial blower setup, and is basically like an enlarged, copper version of the stock abit nf7-s 1.2 nbridge heatsink. How effective do you think this cooler would be for a northbridge? Pretty good if it was designed to handle the heat load of a gpu right?
Let me know what you guys think.

Would work well.

But the size and mouting would maybe be a problem?

hmm...i guess im where your at (wondering whether or not NB cooling is worthwhile, but thats a story for another thread ). it should be more than adequate for cooling a NB.

have you considered using a higher cfm fan on the rad(s) or a bigger / better rad? a medium heater core might handle the load better than your BIX...

Pritorian: there is plenty of space around the northbridge on the nf7-s, more than enough for the cooler. Also, the stock cooler has the same 2 pin female plug as the stock northbridge cooler.

Cyco-Dude: I'm using BI-X for space constraint purposes. I'm using a 116CFM 120mm on my BI-X. It's also on a rheobus.

Give it a try then

do you have any cooling on the southbridge?
Mine gets to about 60c under heavy load

I honestly have never touched the southbridge of this mobo. I'm going to put my old 8k3a+ northbridge heatsink onto it now that you mention it though.
I'll try to get around to redoing my loop this weekend, I'll let you all know how it goes down.

If that's the case, you ought to drop the NB water block.

What's your coolant temp?

hey bb2k, my coolant temp at ambient air right now of 77.7F (25.4C) and my coolant temp is 92.4F (33.5C). I know for sure now that the nforce2 does not run this hot on straight air, a friend who has another nforce2 board on air with a crappy stock heatsink gets better temps than I do.
I think it's time to say goodbye to my blackice micro and my northbridge wb.

Damn! You got that right! 33.5 is a high temperature, even if ambient is 25.

I can't get a bigger heatercore, I'm using a blackice extreme for my loop as well as the micro. My case is much too tight of a fit to put a larger radiator in. I was thinking in the lines of better cooling on my northbridge, and less flow restriction in my loop.
