As I'm sure some of you know I work at a computer shop, at the moment we're completely re-doing our systems, could you guys have a look and see if there is anything you'd do differant? All the systems come with 2 years parts and 3 years labour warranty. Naturally we are doing a series of lower specced computers as well, but here is the high end stuff you guys would be interested in.

I think you're definately going to have to explain the lack of ATI. Other than that it's really hard, every person wants a computer for a little bit of a different reason, which is why most people who can built a custom system do built their own. However I think thoes systems are fairly middle of the road with a good balance of disk space, video performance processor speed etc. I'm not sure what other people think, but I sometimes wonder if packing that much RAM really helps the average user so much - mayeb if you do a lot of multitasking or some graphics stuff (I guess video editing and that is getting more popular) Oh and I almost forgot, running windows - definately a memory hog - but still I can't help but think that money could be spent elsewhere, but that's just me I game lots and I have lots of files - if I was buying the 200+ system I would prefer a better vid card and 512 ram, or a bigger HD, but liek I said, REALLY depends on the end-user.
I'm running 1024MB ram right now(1.7 Celeron), and I don't really notice a difference between 512MB. In my P4 2.4 I did notice a huge difference between 256MB and 512MB Dual Channel. For me the "noticing" point seems to still be 256 and 512 MB. (but then daul channel may have been a factor ![]() Anyone else with thoughts on that RAM?

the ATI distro's here suck, you can get a 9500 pro for about the same price as the fx 5800, the next card below a 9500 pro that is available here is the 9100, and that is about the same price as a ti4200.
Im putting that much ram in the system because most users see it as a big point of differance between us and everyone else. Also it help us standardise by only stocking 512mb sticks. 256mb pc2700/pc3200 sticks here are very hard to find, and of course those 1gb systems are all dual channel. Thanks for your comments, I was kind of expecting comments about no ati and 1gb of ram in some of those systems

Whoops, forgot to say that the graphics cards have been changed to FX5200, Ti4200-8x, Ti4800, FX5800. IE basically all the systems have been upgraded to the next level.
It also means the Barton based system is now $1959, the P4 2600 system has dropped $100, the motherboard and cpu have dropped a lot in the last two days. The price of the P4 2.53ghz and P4 2800 systems haven't changed.

One setup that I've seen successfully done is to have only a couple example machines, and then a menu that allows the purchaser to decide what parts they need. This will allow them to customize the machine, and would allow for a higher profit margin on more highly modified machines (look at Dell or HP for examples when specing a laptop).
By the way, adding more AMD machines at lower cost would be good if you could explain to people the differences and benefits. I've discovered that it is easy to turn people on to AMD when you explain that they push just as hard for a fraction the cost. Again, this may increase your profit margin.

yeah, we have been doing that in these systems, with a couple of basic options, but we do encourage the customers to talk to us and get their system fully customised. a lot of the time we will spend 30 minutes with a customer, and end up selling a $4000 machine, even if the base was a $2000 machine. Here are our other machines:
Celeron 1700mhz Asus P4SGX-MX motherboard 256mb DDR333 Icute 818 case AOC 15" Monitor 3 year onsite warranty 1.44mb Floppy Drive Seagate 40gb 5400rpm Hard Drive Samsung mouse and keyboard set Samsung 52x CD-Rom Creative Speakers 56k Modem $699 Athlon 2200+ Asus A7N266-VM motherboard 256mb DDR333 Icute 818 case AOC 17" Flat Monitor 3 year onsite warranty 1.44mb Floppy Drive Seagate 40gb 7200rpm Hard Drive Samsung mouse and keyboard set Samsung 52/24/52 CD-RW Creative Speakers 56k Modem $899 Pentium 4 2400 Asus P4SGX-MX motherboard 512mb DDR333 Asus GeForce 4 MX440 64mb Icute 818 case AOC 17" Flat Monitor 3 year onsite warranty 1.44mb Floppy Drive Seagate 80gb 7200rpm Hard Drive Samsung mouse and keyboard set Samsung 52/24/52 CD-RW Creative Speakers 56k Modem $1259 (as always remember to divide by 2 to get US$. There isn't that much changing that can be done in the lower end systems, we could change the athlon 2200 to a 2000 and use 512mb ram instead, but thats about it.
