Who else here plays?
I normally play as [WOLF]Daemonfly over at www.wolfservers.com (gaming community) in the evenings or on various pubs if I play in the mornings. |

I used to play now and then a few months ago, but I haven't reinstalled BF since reformatting XP again. I was getting bad glitchy video and sound problems with a fast system (XP1800+, 768MBpc2100, GF4TI4200, SBlive, etc.) Anyone know why this can be and what could fix it? I really liked the game and would like to get back into it.
Other people with comparable or lesser systems played glitch free is what got to me. The sound would come and go from normal to clipped and distorted sort of at random intervals and the video was always very lagged for me.

Yep. Decreasing sound quality in the settings fixed that bug, I believe. If that doesn't help, check out www.bf42.com forums for help.
I play quite regularly, and you can check out my clan's server at 66.111.53.240 . We generally run desert combat on it though.

I play BF fairly often, but I tend to shy away from standard BF, just too arcadey for me.
Mods ( ranked by me ) Eve of Destruction ( http://eod.bfcentral.com) : Vietnam conflict mod for BF. 8 new maps, some of which are very well done. Good mix of realism and balance. XWWII ( http://s9rm.nucleardays.com/ ) : basically takes BF, and inserts realistic weapons and vehicles and 1 new map. This mod is all about realism, so sometimes game balance is imperfect. XWWII also has a squad league, which is supposed to promote teamplay, however I have yet to see an organized game since squads started earlier this year. Desert Combat ( http://www.desertcombat.com ) : Most popular BF mod, but this gets ranked last by me just because the game can get incredibly frustrating (Ever play Kursk with more then 20 people??). What I look for in BF games are two things: teamplay and realism. Good teamplay is difficult on fast-paced mods like DC, although not impossible with a voice com server. Clanning never really appealed to me mostly because most members are young and immature. I've never seen a clan that wasn't this way. Besides, who else can devote 15 hours a week to clan practices. I've thought about subscribing to WolfServers, except for the simple fact that I get terrible ping to all their servers ( 150ms+ ). It would be nice if we could get enough ProCoolers to play casually every now and then on Joe's server, maybe with Ventrilo or Teamspeak. |

I love DC.. play it nightly. Somedays I win, somedays I loose... but always play on the under dog team (which on most maps and wiht the ballance of teams in DC is normally the US, which is bound to get worse with v.4 and the new BMP that iraq gets)
I just search all the servers for a low ping, 24 - 32 person server that is on a map I like (I really dig Wake, Midway, Stalingrad, and the DC maps.) SO thats that. BTW on the Gaming scene my nic is "Clegg"

I just got it, and I've almost finished the campaign as the axis now. Maybe soon I'll feel I'm good enough to get online and play without killing more team mates than enemies

![]() What's the IP for your BF server Joe? You know that the new 1.4 patch just came out, and the linux server is supposed to be much better.

I am going to get 1.4 up tonight some time... we will see if its better, DC has been lag'd all to hell on it.
the server name is currently "JoesBFServer" but its still 1.31 and still lag'd.

1.4 might fix the sound problem, if they were smart enough to include it... For 1.3, the common fix was to change a number in one of the config files.
Link to fix I posted on oc-forums: http://forum.oc-forums.com/vb/showth...und+AND+BF1942 |
