I am thinking of buying an Ice probe from coolworksinc.com. It is a 55watt pielter unit that I am thinking of useing with my water cooling system . My system has a Barton 2500+. my question is do you think that 55 watts will cool the water enough to make a difference in the temp?
these ice probes are used in water coolers |

I believe the bare minimum for an AMD pelt or any for that matter, should be 80watts. any higher than this will usually cool below ambient. Condensation prevention is needed here.

I would think twice about this for pc watercooling. Spec's say it will develop an "ice ball" around it, which then cools water. How big is your res?
Second issue is the 55 watt rating. Try 2, perhaps 3 with typical pelt effiencies. |

I wouldn't waste my money.
Because it's underpowered, it's going to need to be assisted with a radiator, and the result is that the radiator would perform almost exactly the same, all by itself. |

I guess it depends on how you use your computer. If you typically let it just idle and surf etc and occasionally put it under load for brief periods then it might work. The wattages published by AMD are for load not idle.
But if you think about it logically then if the peltier takes say an hour to chill a small amount of water to 10C, and the CPU stays under load constantly generating MORE heat than the peltier is generating cold, then the water temp is going to just keep rising. And rising and rising until it hits an equilibrium. I wouldn't think this is a good solution for a system that is folding or otherwise running under load 24/7. |

I am looking for 24/7 cooling with heavy game play
I am useing an SLK800 with a tarnado, when gameing I am looking at 48-49%c. the rest of the time just run folding 24/7 and some business programs then it runs around 41-42%c. Want to go water cooling but would like to chill the water also. Would like to use a thermostat in order to adjust temp according to use. I am ronning a 2500xp Barton@2076 mhz 12x173 V /c 1.75. On an AT7-Max2 Abit Mobo. I agree with you concerning the Ice Probe It will not do the trick. Just came across it on a web site and thought I would ask your thoughts. |
