Default eheim 1250 question

What is the intended use for the gray screw on fittings on the input and output barbs on these pumps? I am asking because I saw a picture on german site where they where testing waterblock performance and they had a rectangular bottle resevoir mounted over the intake barb with some kind of sealer and I think the the grey removable part on the inside of the bottle whick I think would provide some clamping force. Has anyone tried this? I think it would save me some space and looks easy to do. Do you think a couple of O-rings could be used to provide increased reliability?

In the normal use of Eheim pumps (in fishtanks...) those screw fittings are used to clamp the attached hoses.
It works very well with thinwall hoses (1/16") but less with thickwall (1/8").

The only screw on Reservoirs I have seen are exclusively for the 1048 and the 1046, not the 1250. If they have one for the 1250, it would be a good thing for your watercooling rig.
