Lost Circuits took a very close look at OCZ PC3700 256 MB EL DDR Dual Gold CHmemory:
http://www.lostcircuits.com/memory/ocz3700/ (linked on the OC homepage). If you hated OCZ, now you know why! If you didn't, you now have a better understanding of what they are. ![]() |

If you read through the memory forum at Overclockers, it is pretty clear that the 256 MB OCZ 3700 Gold sticks are the best for a P4 at this time. With an AMD processor, the higher latencies of the OCZ memory seems to be a bigger factor. Quoting the the article BB2K linked: "For now, the conclusion is that the [OCZ] PC3700 EL, using small, low density die components are far better than what the ratty appearance under the heatspreaders suggests." |

Geil = OCZ. It is just another brand of theirs and is even worse in quality than their OCZ in general. Call Corsair XMS at 555-NOCZ for a guaranteed good time.

As far as I can tell it’s completely different memory and is manufactured by "Golden Empire International LTD” in Taiwan. Geil is several years older than OCZ as a company. It also seems that OCZ is US based and GEIL is based in China. If anything I would suspect OCZ is owned by GEIL as China has very very strict laws about foreign business ownership. I have been wrong before so if I am let me know.

I personally have trusted Corsair memory for the last 3 years and have had not a single problem. Within that 3 years time, I have buildt numerous systems for customers/friends, purchased 8 memory sticks for myself and NONE of those purchases have ever been a mistake.
Crucial would be my only other option in my book but they are a distant 2nd. This is my personal experience and AS USUAL, milage may vary.

Since OCZ memory is just normal memory with the top 7nm lasered off. Wouldn't I see the same gains if I lapped the memory myself?
