Any need to disband system?

Hi everybody…

I need a bit of advice after I have been running my Innovatek-based system during almost a year. I haven’t had any problems at all so far, but now I start to wonder if I should do some kind disband/re-assemble of the system to keep it running perfectly for the next year?

Here’s my setup: Eheim 1048 -> InnovaRadi Dual -> InnovaCool Rev.3 (on Athlon XP 2700) -> Innovatek Tank-O-Matic -> InnovaGraph VGA (on ATI Radeon 9700 Pro) -> Eheim 1048. I’m using distilled water (bought at the pharmacy) together with InnovaProtect (anti-corrosion).

I have been refilling the system over the last year whenever there was a slight need so it has been a pure pleasure.

Any reason why it shouldn’t continue that way?

Regards, stoff

If the temps are still good, no leaks, all fittings and tubing look good, and no other visable problems then I would say "don't fix it if it ain't broke".

Temps still look good, although I can't remember how they were a year ago. Asus Probe shows the Athlon XP 2700 doing 38 C at idle and only rising to 40 C with ti minutes of MP3 (LAME) encoding. Sounds decent to me...

Thanks for the advice!

Is there any rules to how long a well built system should work?

Not really. Figure a cars cooling system is under 10 times the stress of a PC cooling system and cars systems run for years. It should easily outlast the PC (except maybe the pump/rad fan) if everything is done right with anti corrosion stuff. Only weak point is the pump and fan, but you have no control over that.

Looks like you did everything right. You might want to add a little axtra anti corrosion stuff now and then when you top the system off if your not already.

One thing you should do semi-regularly is to clean out the radiator with compressed air. I find even with filters that it can get pretty clogged up after a few months. Thermal paste can sometimes need reapplication after several months as well I hear (I have never run the same CPU for long enough to find out).

After a year you should flush it with Airspirits mix and make sure all the junk is out. Depending on your block I would consider taking it apart and checking for mass deposits. Think of it like a 80,000 mile checkup.
