i presume most here have already heard about amd locking the current barton 2500+'s.
this same item was my desired cpu in a future setup for a friend. once i heard about the newly locked cpu's i was waiting eagerly for a solution by the ever so resourcefull amd-heads. been catching up on a thread where it has been made out that nomatter what bridge decription u are willing to do with an exacto knife will change the multi. so right now i have an 2.8/512/800 laying before me; i was willing to live with a small performance loss at a low price. but if price advantage is gone than i will gladly take the advantage of HT and sse2 optimised soft and go the intel route.

That's basically it, g.l.amour
My preference for AMD has always been the flexibility they give me. If I want to shorten the lifespan of my CPU ... that's my choice. I bought it. Intel's CPUs are not bad at all. I just happened to not like their lack of love for the hobby community. |

but what about the p4EE, I mean come on.. how many of us don't have an extra $1000 to spend on it? can you honestly say that you don't?
but I agree, right now the 2.4-2.8~3/800mhz are imo best price/preformance ratio |

another argument is that multiplier unlocking allowed the overclocker to find out the max stable overclock and then to set the multiplier according to what your memory can do maximum fsb stable. if that is gone there will still be some dollar difference between intel and amd, but that difference will shrink into oblivion when you get the bill for the memory you will need to get those chips at max fsb. i've been checking out the prices for pc4000, those are nausiating prices.

They are just pricing themselves out of the market. As far as I am concerned they are irrelevant until the price drops with competition. I think the best thing ever to happen to the market was AMD AND Intel competing. Otherwise Intel would be Microsoft and they would just try to rape the customers.

I agree, but right now I think intel has a better priceing then amd for mid-level chips, a 2.8/800 is $214 right now. an athlon xp 3000+ is $200+ and the intel will rape it in proformance
