Default fs crystalfontz 634v2 lcd (price drop)

Crystalfontz 634 version 2 character lcd. 20x4 characters. Works great. Standard green backlight. I am including brand new, never used power and and a 6ft serial cable from crystalfontz. This cost me $71 plus shipping. I will give it up for $45 shipped in the US.

A few questions...

1. Does it have support under Linux?

2. Is this just something that displays characters, or does it have other functionality as well (such as a microprocessor that could make it into a temperature monitor / fan speed controller that doesn't depend on the mobo and O/S for anything other than initial configuration?)

3. Can you point me at a manufacturers website, or other place that has good info on this item?

Thanks,

Gooserider

Thanks for your intrest. There is third party software available for free that supports this lcd under linux. I beleive one is called LCDproc. The screen is only a screen that displays characters, unlike the CF633 that is reviewd on this site. It is, however, much larger than the 633. The website is www.crystalfontz.com. Thanks

I have this LCD, although the Reverse Backlit one. All the software I have tried works for it, including LCDPROC. I once had it working in my Gentoo build. Although currently I have no Linux build on the box that has the LCD. If you are looking for a good ooutput only LCD, then this is a good one.

Thanks for the reply, but I'm looking for more than just an output display.... I've been trying to find a good fan control unit, and was hoping that this might have the ability to be made into one. It doesn't look like it could be.

I'm looking for something that gives me OS independent control, (I.E. a specialized microcontroller) with a display. There were a couple of folks building this type of unit over on SPCR, but one fell through, and the other doesn't have the functionality I want.

A DD5 is sort of close to what I'm after, except that it only turns the fans on and off. I want a graduated speed control so that the fans can run at extremely slow / silent speeds most of the time, but automatically turn themselves up if the use demands it.
