Hi guys...
i am new to these forums so hello all ![]() My dissertation is on designing and external watercooling device. i need to do some basic calculations for heat transfer or flow on a waterblock for example, or radiators... while cooling a cpu or vga so that i can calculate an expected temp in order to compare it with the readings taken from the bios? I am using the waterchill kit for my pc...cpu-vga-NB blocks so as a reference this is my watercooling gear which use the L20 pump and stock radiator (same as the vapochill used to have).It would be nice to be able to calculate any expected temps on my components and then compare them with the ones taken from the bios. I know it wont be accurate cos theres loads of variables and bios info may be far away from actual, but i need to do some estimations... in general words i need to do some basic calculations...or find any articles with calculations-analysis about HEAT TRANSFER-FLOW and any other info etc. etc... thanks in advance ![]() |

dissertation? Might want to start with a few engineering courses on fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, and heat transfer. How are you going to get a Ph.D without ever learning the basics?

but even so, how does a student get to 'that' level w/o understanding how to do research ?
Brwmogazos no one answered your question: google, and google some more - then go hit your engn library no bios (shit) temps, but some of the other stuff at http://thermal-management-testing.com/ |

Hi guys...
I am doing a masters in Engineering design and manufacture...the masters has got to do with using matlab, pro e, ansys etc etc etc.. off course and i have studied thermodynamics in the past... i was looking for some links that could save me time for getting into trouble with my units and methodology... i was stuck for a few hours calculating the Q=m*Cp*ΔT Cos i was getting something like 4W... so thanks to that link http://thermal-management-testing.com/ (thanks a lot mate) i noticed my Cp for H20 wasnt 1 as i found in the net.... its 4000somehting joule... so i hope i am gonna get some correct results... i was gonna post for that miscalculation i got right now but thanks to that link i will try again... Doing an MSC or a BNG doesnt mean anything...you can be focused on other things than thermodynamics or even forget or even pay less attention to some modules...so no youre not right criticising anyone that has done a degree in a ENGINEERING...Egineering isnt something specific...or focused in thermodynamics... Thanks again for your help, will post back if i cant get it right... by the way my dissertation is on the design and built of an external watercooling device... |

I am aware that this link will not do you much good since the forum is in slovene but it shows a rather nice analysis in Ansys DesignSpace of the effects of baseplate thicknes on thermal transfer.
Ambient temp: 30C Heat current: 80W (an air cooler is simulated) Convection coefficient: 50W/m^2K

If it's any help... my colleague Martin posted this article;
http://www.nordichardware.com/articl...vattenkylning/ The complete formulae, with an example using units. I understand the difficulty with dealing with units, having worked both sides of the metric and US measures... That equation above requires some pretty unusual conversions (relatively). |
