Hehe, I sympathize. I had planned to run the beta only on my slowest machine. But it's been sneaking into the faster machines, too, as I try to climb the rankings.

Looks like FreeDC has decided to fight for first.

Looks like I will be down and out for a while. I have another road trip that will last 2 weeks starting Monday and I need to reorganize things around here and get ready for a possible move to a new place next month.

*yay* I got the quad Xeon today!! *yay*
Right now I'm putting W2K3 on it for benchmarking (at the demand of a friend ), before I turn it into a RedHat 7.3 devel machine (and see how fast it can chew through DF ).

3 2.2 gig pc/512 mb ram (my pc)

4 2.6 gig pc/256 mb ram (my beter halfs pc)

5 2.7 gig pc/768 mb ram (my bro's)

6 2.1 gig pc/512 mb ram (server)

7 1.4 gig pc/256 mb ram (spare for people that come over to game)

8 1.1 gig pc/256 mb ram (freinds pc I've been working on)

These run about 50% of the time.

What kind of proc in each of those? (Hopefully no Celeron 2/4s ) Also, how much are they idle? I've noticed that output on my home machine drops to almost nothing when my wife is browsing/typing stuff in Word. Possibly DF doesn't like task switching very much?

On the plus side, the Xeon seems to be putting up good numbers, even in W2K3. I started four copies (not quiet) at 23:05 CT yesterday, and as of 17:52 CT, the machine is producing roughly 570 structures/hour/processor (including gen0).

I'm taking it down now for more testing, so there is a slight window of opportunity for catch-up.

Hehe--we'll see--I'm pretty surprised myself; especially after the way you blew past me a few months ago.

Not dead. Just drowsy.
I've switched workstations and commandeered another Xeon (will be a mail server once I get some other projects done...). They _should_ dump a bunch of points later tonight or tomorrow, once the link at work becomes less saturated...

finally got back to crunching,
atm mines running cpu stock though as the watercoolings on the blink, the res is leaking like a bugger when its full and when its low enough to stop it drags air around killing performance. out comes the sealant gun tomorrow. well atleast its still getting 100k a day at 2500+ should be back up once i get it back up to near 2.5ghz. also hopefully should have my mini farm back online soon so a 3200+ 2x 1ghz tbirds and a 3.2ghz p4 lappy. now all i need to do is persaude the computing lab at uni to let me borrow their 50+ p4 2.8s each nite

Does anyone here know if a "500 watt" atx power supply realy pulls 500 watts @ 110 volts?? See I'm on this power kick since my bills like $350 a month and started looking into solar and make/saving power, well in my learning I found out how to find how many watt hours things use and how much they cost a month and if all 13 of my pc's here are costing $28 a month each to use looks like foldings only going to happen during the day so far I've added a few solar pv cells and deep cycle batteries for 12 lighting in my shop , a exercise bike rigged with a 60 amp 12 volt altanator for the ol'lady and 100 gallon batch water heater, lol I sure hope these power supply dont realy pull that much I was doing so good

I don't think so. If I remember correctly the supply is regulated to only supply what is needed up to it's max rating. Most systems use less than 200watts so it should only be pulling around that much from the supply.

The power supply won't pull 500watts unless your computer needs it. It will only pull as much as necessary (plus a little bit due to inefficiency). So, if you really wanted to get an exact measure on how many watts your rig requires, you could look up the specs of all the hardware, like hard drives, cd-rom drives, etc. They usually state how many amps they take from the 5V and 12V rails. Then add them all up.

That makes for a funny mental image. 'Dammit woman, pedal faster!! My framerates are dropping!!!'

How many kwh of energy is all your stuff using? I think I was only drawing about 2000kwh/month during the winter with 3x machines running, and crappy electrical heat, etc. Then again, that number could be off, my recollection is fuzzy.

I'm using 3600 kwh a month now and thats with trying to save, lol and I just made a nice little amp meter today "couldn't stand not knowing" I used a extention cord with a amp meter mounted in it and the bigest badest computer in the house only pulls 2 amps witch = 240 watts witch = $13.82 running 24/7. The bike is too cool, my son keeps leaving his tv and light on all night so now I just add up his waste in watts and mke him give it back on the bike
