Please Help Me with My School Project (making waterblocks) - Page 5

Just wondering, i'm a newbie and wanted to know how well direct die cooling works? can't you just have a water block w/o a underplate and use hotglue, or caulking to seal it to the cpu and get much better temps, anyway, if you do get better temps with direct die cooling, do you reccomend removing the heat spreader on the athlon 64 or leaving it on for better water cooling?
any replys would be helpful, thanks

Direct die cooling really doesnt work, I dont think its successfully done without killing a processor or even gotten better temps than high performance waterblock. I know I have tried it without much success, lasted about a week then my cpu died, temps were up a few degrees too.

I was wondering then, if direct die cooling doesn't work that well how about directly cooling the heat spreader. would that work very well? if it only pushes temps up a bit then maybe it is worth saving the $35 on a water block

You would still be running the risk of leaking, why not just put a base on that direct die cooler and be set?

Don't go cheap when choosing stuff that goes near your cpu and carries water. Which can you more afford, a $35 waterblock or a new computer?

True you are right Butcher about using a $35 waterblock when i risk loosing a $200 cpu, but if i use a sealer like caulking to completely seal the open block to the heat spreader of the athlon 64 cpu i shound't have to worry about any leaks, plus i should see even better cooling temps, maybe i am wrong, but i have used caulking in the past on other projects and it seals pretty tight.

k, i have my waterblock finished, and i had to use some cutting/tapping fluid because the mill bits i used were so small, and the copper was so soft, they have left a weird color and stuff on it, is there a way to get it off, if so what should i clean it with? my COPPER core should be coming in the mail anytime now, just need a pump and tubing, and sugestions on the tubing, im gona go with a Eheim pump, either a 1046, 1048, or 1250.
