I'd really like to do a bong setup sometime where the PC loop is isolated from the evap water and theres a heat exchanger in the bong, and a light trap on the in&out air pipes so it doesnt grow slime inside. it would also need a tap at the bottom for drainage. and an auto shutdown switch if its empty and a refill alarm.
I have the urge to make something bong. but no need to do it. I've got WCing disease. |

Even if you don't get growing slime, you'll get mineral buildup.
Why not just put that heat exchanger in the water tank of your toilet? |

More seriously, if you live somewhere where evaporative cooling is going to make a difference, and you're thinking about using a heat exchanger to keep the nasties out of the "inner" part of your system, why not just figure a way to build a radiator system with evaporative "booster"? For instance, if you use a heater core, you could setup a plant mister to put a bit of water on the outside of the radiator, with a tray underneath everything to catch the un-evaporated drips? Turn the booster on when you're going to frag (or whatever).
Or... if you wanted to go for "traditional" evaporative cooling, why not a really big pot, made of something that passes water slowly, like terra cotta? That's been used to keep drinking water cool in the American Southwest since the Spanish showed up (maybe before) and it wouldn't surprise me if the native peoples in SA (bantu?) had used something similar. Get it in tribal colors (clay colors, not glaze) and you can tell folks you have a pre-Boer cooling system ![]() Seriously, I don't know if that'd work as I don't know how well terra cotta transmits heat. Maybe it's fine, once the pores are saturated with water... Bob |

Here's what I've seen.
Lets admit it, bongs are huge, kind of wierd looking, and detract from the general idea of a PC. However, bobkoure has the idea. If you're going for evaporative, you can definately have misters on your radiator using a 2 loop setup, or you could even roll with a copper-pipe thing submerged in the bong reservoir where all the cool water comes out. 7 |
