Default water block progress

will i finally started milling my water block

now i need to figure out what speed the bit needs to run at for copper (RPM), anyone know??? it's running at 94 RPM and it's not too smooth

From what I remember of my machine classes at college there's only 2 speeds you use with copper and especially brass, stop and flat out

It was always my understanding that your material feed rate and depth of cut affected the issue as well. Usually you can get the info for feed rates and bit speed from manufacturer's web sites

the machines my school has are from WWII

oh and anyone know of a site that sells the milling bits for it???

my old school was made in 1896. that just about sums it up....we had war bunkers and stuff. A firing range too....

me HS is pretty old too

my middle school was build in 1878

Dosn't matter, milling is milling. If you are running 94RPM you are beating a dead horse. Feed rates are important but the spindal speed needs to be around 2,500 to 3,000+RPM to do any real milling in AL or Copper. I wish mine would do 6,000RPM it would make life a little easier. If you try and go into the block at that speed you will only be able to take off 1/128" at a time at very slow feed rate. And you will just tear up endmills.

Why 94RPM? Dosn't it go faster? My drill press will do 3,000RPM!!!

i had it up to 153 RPM and it scaired the crap out of me

it was making so much noise

BTW its a horizontal mill

So is mine. Are you sure you have your RPM correct? It isn't 94 or 153 X 10???
