I REALLY hate these guys with mom's hand me down civic, that put (to quote Joe) a "fart pipe" on it, and drive by my house at 2 am, hammering down-shifts.

IMHO the "show" part of the import scene is the only part that should really exist.
Now I'm not a ricer, and I don't like what a lot of people do to imports, but IMHO imports look a lot nicer than pretty much any domestics around right now. Looks is what imports do best. As far as performance goes, imports can compete in the AutoX, but for going in a straight line they really suck. I don't even wanna think about how much it would cost me to try and get my RSX into the 13 second range, let alone any faster. But it's fairly easy to do to an older muscle-car. And once you start to get truely fast - sub 10-second - you just don't see imports at all anymore. If you wanna go fast, you need the big displacement. |

Ok, I better explain myself, I don't want to sound like a dinosaur.
I am a classic car buff, and the old saying "there's no replacement for displacement" has been heard coming from me in the past, but in all reality, imports are where it is at. I actually cringe at the site of a tubbed, slammed, screwed up classic now. Yes, a 3500 lb. whale running 10's is damn impressive, but those cars are better off (mechanically and environmentally) in the show and shine lot...unmutilated. A '69 LS6 Chevelle in stock trim, running high 12's, has a higher price tag, than one with $30k invested, ruined as far as a collectable piece of history is concerned, running 8's. The fact that anyone born after 1980 has rarely even seen one of these things, is another good reason. Saying that imports shouldn't be more than show is a tough one...that's like trying to tell a 16 year old kid (for a quick example ) that AC/DC is better than Eminem. Why do I have a sudden urge to call my dad, just to say hi now? ![]() Sorry about the hi-jack Lord Twilight. ![]() |

I've got nothing against the classics - and I agree, they should be left alone, not modded to hell. But there are new cars with big engines and higher displacement too, and those are the ones that will be the fastest at the track.
You can take a new mustang and get into the 10's with probably less than 10K invested into it. It would take a damn lot more cash than that to get a new import going that fast. Everything you can do to a 4-banger import to make it faster (nitrous, turbo/surpercharge, etc.) you can also do to a 5L V8, and the V8 will get a bigger improvement out of it. |

You hi-jacking bastards!!!
![]() heh, just kidding. I think this is the most popular thread I've ever started! ![]() I was also looking at Celica's.. the new ones are nice, but I like the 94-98 years the best.. not to mention the Supra's... I guess it's pretty obvious that I like them curvy smooth cars.. (I also have a 1973 Camaro that isn't running right now...) Half the people here in Tucson have those fricking annoying slammed Honda Civics with fartpipes (whoever first said it, Joe?, I'm hijacking that word. ![]() ![]()

I've always liked the Mitsubishi stealths
![]() Clean lines, decent power and handling, they did't even ride that bad. But I'm getting old. I love my Skylark. And the jerk of kids fart pipe across the street pissed me off and whats the point ofe the sloppy clutch effect gear ratios. Anchorage roads are NOT built for that crap. I actually saw one stuck in the middle of an intersection. I put a hole in the neighbor kids muffler. Sound better now. My wife drives a full size truck. one of the ricers with a big ass/tall spoiler pulled up next to her, she put her McDonalds trash on it like a drive up shelf. Don't get me wrong, I like imports but I think some of the things they do to them is ridiculous.

I'd like to point out I'd prefer to listen to Deep Purple, ACDC, Aerosmith, Led Zep and the Who all day long instead of one second of trash from eminem.
just think of this as an aussie Corvette http://homepages.ihug.co.nz/~msml/MVC-869F.JPG

That looks great Brad.
I remember you saying something about that car before, it flies if I remember correctly...probably was in the speeding ticket thread. Any guy with 'cuda in his sig is ok by me. Even if it isn't the Hemi variety. ![]() |

Straight line isnt what it used to be. the light imports can get up and boogy with the big boys if they want to, and have the money. Also the "show" aspect of the import scene is rather played out... its nothing but a bunch of highschool "gangsta'z" now ( or Icy Hot Stuntaz if you prefer) now who think cause they got some chome, some 19" rims, far pipe action, neon, or any other gaudy weight adding crap on their machine.. its instantly the most bad ass race car ever invented. I am all about the sleeper.. something that seems very low key and tame, but when you light it up, it screams! There are a few sleeper 2.5RS's around... one pulls almost 400 Hp... and pisses off WRX drivers all the time ![]() I dunno I like to suprise people. Not have a car that screams "hey I think I am fast!!! I am a badd azz Mofoz!" another thing I hate... pitch black pimp tint... and washer nozzle LED's...

while on the topic, I just had a V8 top end Tacoma TRD truck beat me in a bit of a run on race
![]() I was trying to merge onto this road, and the truck sped up to not let me in, so I gunned it and driving on the shoulder, I was nose to nose with the truck up to 90 Mph... then the truck pulled on me and was ahead of me by 100 Mph. ( trust me.. if I didn't have AutoX experience with this car I doubt I coulda kept it straight at 100 Mph with 2 wheels just touching gravel... Kids dont try this at home... its stupid) anyway, so its a big shocker, a truck with 250+ hp and a nice low RPM high torque V8 beat a Flat 4 165Hp car over 90 Mph hehehe She was a dumb bitch anyway, she wasnt watching where she was going and after I let off the gas and merged far behind her, she almost back ended a semi at that speed... Word to the wise, when you are driving stupid, atleast keep an eye out for the innocent!! or atleast keep looking forward. Women + Trucks + high speeds = disaster waiting to happen...

Joe: yeah this year prelude's the best
![]() import scene: this is only valid in U.S. . Here in Europe ppl are "ricing" their Peugeot or BMW, or worse, their Fiat. With no doubt Civic owners wont even start to race me. But those kids with "boom-boom" techno, boeing-size spoiler, monstertruck-sized exhaust, fake 2nd exhaust, ultra-lowered piece of shits always try to race me at light stops. And, i've got simple tastes i admit, nothing's more enjoyable than seeing their face in the mirror when i smoke them... The most funny thing is, they're doing this to 70hp diesels ! About nice cars, the U.S. have produced its lots of very nice looking cars. I like the Corvette the most. Toyota Supra, Honda NSX, Nissan Skyline R34, Corvette ZR-1, Aston Martin DB7, those are my dream cars ![]() I would really like to test drive a Mazda RX-7, these cars are awesome. What i'm looking for is nice *stock* looks (no "bling-bling" mods), good acceleration, great handling, and most of all, fun. And the 'lude is a fun car indeed. Drives like a toy or a video game ! Ack, old gits are squatting this thread... MMmhhh deep purple, AC/DC, The Who.... you guys make me feel old all of sudden... |

Is that the Uncle Ben's factory parking lot?
I am 16 and I listen to the Who, AC/DC, Aerosmith. I also listen to country music so its not saying a lot for you guys I guess. I must admit if I could I would get a TT Stealth or 3000GT. I still like the Dodge Avenger for its looks not is "power". I would like to get one and make it RWD and put a 350 in it ![]()

And Joe your comment about the IROC people..... couldn't be more right. The 305 is the second worst V8 Chevy has produced pretty much ever. The Worst being the 307 which is pretty much a Big Block engine but only 307cui. I can't stand 2nd and 3rd generation Firebirds and Camaros. 1st and 4th is the only place to be. I need to find a 4th gen firebird to park next to my dad's 1st gen firebird. I would take a 305 Iroc over most ricers though. I would take most modern Subies or a Stealth or and Avenger over it. Like I said I still just like the looks of the Avenger(when its not riced!)

What do you all consider a fart pipe? A loud muffler? One that sounds like a weed-eater? One with a 4" tip?
I personally had stock muffler problems (nasty rattling) so I put on a "performance" muffler. It isnt loud, or harsh sounding. It doesnt sound like a weed-eater when my car hits 8000rpm. It is a low sound, but I know some people would consider it a fart pipe just because of its 4"tip. I think some people just group a larger tip with a "fart-pipe"

nope 4" tips normally put you in the ricer category with a "rice pipe"
heheh there aint no "performance" in one of those overly expensive coffee cans. the claims of "10 Hp increase just putting it on" is SOOO damn funny.

I didnt buy it for any performance. That wasnt the point. I bought it for its sound just like someone with a mustang would buy a flowmaster for the sound.
I define a ricer as someone who doesnt have a clue what actual performance is derived from and puts altezzas and a big aluminum wing on their car thinking it will be worth at least 10 ponies.
