Default Distributed Computing (Very important!)

Those of you said you would like to help with the ProCooling Distributed Computing team we need to decide on a project.

If you look here you'll find a list of distributed computing projects:
http://www.aspenleaf.com/distributed...-projects.html

The main restrictions on any of the projects that would choose would be that the project has to be relatively new. If we start with something like Folding@home or SETI@home we'll be years behind and there won't be any fun competition
Also, the project has to be pretty agreeable with for everyone's thinking and dare I say beliefs.
I like the idea of Evolution@home but I'm sure there are a few people who disagree.. so it has to be something benign. Probably something that has to with protein folding would be best because I don't think many people have a problem with finding a cure for cancer or alzheimers.
Distributed Folding looks very promisiing or something along those lines.
So umm... give some input on to what project you guys think should be run.
Thanks

I would have to say that one of the Life Sciences category would be the best to put our processing power to. It might help save you or your kid's life someday.

-dual 366 celery at 600Mhz (until I WC it)
-950MHz Athlon
-750MHz Athlon(have to replace caps on the Abit mobo)
-Parent's decent speed (1GHz or so) E-Machines PC

Am currently building a 1.6A or higher P4 watercooled system.

XP 1.6ghz (soon to be wc'd and oc'd)
duron 1100mhz
classic athlon 600mhz
pentium pro 250mhz

Don't do SETI now. SETI 2 is comming sooner or later and the current one will end. Folding and Genome suck as you canot cach units and you have to be there to send the unit off if you are on dialup and unable to auto connect to the net.

I am currently crunching for AMDMB's SETI team:

(my units cruched)

If you can find a decent project that is capable of caching units then I will consider it. But I am getting ready for SETI2 as of now. Also SETI is way more in depth than just looking for ET. It has many uses like mapping out space ect...

When is SETI2 due out.. and will the scores reset. If not then it looks like the choice is one of the Folding projects.

Anything wrong with having 2 or more teams? I know, not enough members...

SETI2 is supposed to be in the next 6 months. Don't wait for it, just don't go with the current SETI as it is way to late. All the other projects are fine as long as you can babysit your comps if you have dialup. If you have always on ISP you are good to go with any project. I require a program that cach's units because I travel for work and on dialup so I cannon connect when I am on road trips. Those trips can last up to a month so that is all wasted time unless I can cach units, crunch them while I am gone and upload when I get back. Seti seems to be the only one that can do that right now.

Otherwise Folding@home or Genome@home are good. Remember there is a client out for Genome@home that will get Folding units when gemome ones are not available and you will end up crunching Folding units to a misc team.

Ahhh here is the info:
Quote:
It seems that it does work, but in a limited capacity. What is happening to ALL those who switched from classic to F@H3 for it's genome capability, is it will run Genome credit the appropriate Genome User Account but when it FAILS to get new work after it's FIRST try it will download a FOLDING WU and fold instead of generating a new seed for the previous protein crunched as it does under "classic". Now here's the kicker, not that contributing a folding WU to fellow frogs in the pond is a bad thing, but what happens is a NEW folding team is created under the "100000" Team ID. I know most if not all of us are sticking with the classic version, but those who do both Folding and Genome should keep the G@H classic for genome, and utilize the new folding core for folding, if you crunch with the new core with both in essence you'll be competing against your own folding team when utilizing the G@H capability (ie using the G@H Team ID).

ITSOLarge I don't mean to steal your thunder, but you kinda just made a new thread and said the same things I said in the old one and used my link to all the projects...first what was the point of that? Second LAME.

On to the importantent things, I see no problem having two projects, the nice thing about having two projects, is everyone on the forum will find something they like to support. I mentioned in the old thread, that I liked Evolution@home because it would be easy to catch up to the highest ranking people in a short matter of time. Plus it is a cool idea. I don't think we should hold our breath for SETI2 that is a long way off, and they might not start it with a clean slate anyway. SETI users might just have to upgrade to the seti2 prog, and workunits would be retained....so thats a bad idea for a group project. My vote goes for evolution, and the rest of you all can throw out some other suggestions for perhaps a second project.

I say seti... cause if we don't get off this planet nothing really matters anyway. Evolution should solve any medical problems.

ok i checked out the dolphin link you had, and it looks like its basically a progam giving them permission to install spyware monitoring your keystrokes(passwords, common searches hehe)......if this is not a correct assumption then let me know, othewise I'm for a science or math project. check my links in the old post.

yeah it monitors every ****ing key you type and tries them in combination they were written in a dechypherer on the server, so in essence, youre jsut a very large word generator that makes decription keys.
