..and see how it does. All freehand done with Dremel ,diamond bits and hacksaw. Base plate is 1.5mm in channel area.
I'll let you know how it does...

Looks like one of the dremel polishing attachments to me.

Very nice block for freehand.

I work 4-10 hour days, then 3 days off on the weekends...no free time during the week, but I probably spend too much time on such projects on the weekend.

It wasn't all just the Dremel...don't forget the hacksaw, cordless drills,torches..ect. The finish on the top plate was made with a tiny bristle brush attached to the trusty Dremel and coated with jewelers rouge. Then I just touched the brush to the surface and it makes a small swirl... keep doing it over and over till its covered. There is a term for the technique, but I can't recall it.
Thanks for the thumbs up and fully intend to test it out this weekend.

If you do another one that way, try using some tungsten carbide Dremel bits. I used to make em' with a drill press and those bits and it worked pretty well..........just kills the h&ll out of your wrists though!

First tests look good...I put it on a Morgan-Duron 1.1ghz running 1.95 volts and under chip thermistor reports low 20's C . This box is outside in my workshop, so ambient temps are low.
To get a better idea of temps I'll put it on my Tbird which has a sensor epoxied under the chip.
I wanted to make sure it was safe to use before I cooked my AHYJA bird...
I'm pleased with the results so far. Will update later.

Looks great, especially the temps!!

I was thinking of doing something like that and what wondering how thick the copper plate is and what diameter the outlet holes are ( the o's in the following "O------O")
Thanks.

The copper I used is 2" x 1/4 electrical grade bus bar. The base plate open areas are roughly 1/2 in diameter with 1/8 npt in the top plate for the outlet tubes. I'm not real concerned about restriction caused by the 1/8 npt as the 3/8 inlet barb is nozzled down to about 1/8" ID in a flat, high pressure stream.
Pumps in this setup are one 350gph Supreme MagDrive and a ShurFlo 12 VDC diaghram pump out of a RV. I have to run the ShurFlo throttled back to 9 volts cause I'm afraid something may give out due to pressure.
All this flows through a 18 pass 8"x 9" x 3" deep air conditioning condensor that I use for a radiator. Twin 120MM fans pull air through the fins.
After installing the block on my TBird 1.4 today, things look good. Software reports chip temp at 30c and my under core epoxied sensor shows me at 25.7c. This is just idle/web surfing loads so bear that in mind.Water temps seem to be @21-22c in the reservoir.
Not real pleased with my hose situation right now as I don't think I got a good thermal joint due to hose stress while setting up the block.I need to re-plumb the thing and make sure I have good block seating on the core.

What did you use the hacksaw for?
cause if you used it wouldn't you cut the sides of the block also?

The hacksaw just cut the top and base to size.
Since this thread popped back up I'll bring it up to date....
This block works excellent. Using the under chip epoxied sensor,I'm seeing 3-5 C over liquid temps and 7 -9 C over ambient
readings. This setup includes 2X 350 gph Supreme MagDrives a 3 " deep 8 pass heater core with 2x 120mm fans.
One note on these tiny fins....make sure you run a very fine mesh screen on your pump inlet as tiny bits of teflon, goop, fish turds, ect tend to block the water flow causing temps to creep up.

Yeah, I use it all the time........If I didn't use it, how would I know how well the block worked?
Its networked to the main pc, sharing a 1500/128 DSL connection. Now, the other one in the bedroom doesn't get much use....

nice work man....
i see you only have 4 holes for mounting to the mobo...i don't see any other holes for screwing two plates together...tell me more about how did you seal it..also what did you use? JB WELD? GOOP? O-Ring?
ineteresting i might do one myself since i know it's doable...
also what cutting wheels did you use for dremel? if u can post the pic of all the bits you used that would be great...
thx alot...

I just spread a thin layer of Permatex gasket sealant around the 2 pieces and clamped them together. As far as Dremel bits, I used the small ,thin cut-off wheels and my large assortment of diamond bits. Look around on sale and you can pick up the cutoff wheel assortment pack which has a buttload of discs in it for around $20.00.

If I had pumps pushing water into the block with no outlet, pressure would build and cause it to leak. Its just a water jacket basically, with an open flow going through it with pump head pressure only.
Besides, the 4 through bolts will hold the mess together, clamped to the die.

Good to see a home brew dremmel block!, always!...

I'd put four allen bolts in there to hold it together as well though, about 1CM in from the mount holes, but it's your block ...

Nice one!, have you thought about using a 'slitting saw' blade on your Dremmel?, those are real thin (less than 1mm) and have a small but consistant diametre, there's some pics and prices halfway through BB2K's 'RADIUS' thread, somewhere! ...

PM him for details maybe?...

Actually, I bought a set of mini cut-off saw saw blades...they cut copper stock pretty good and do excellent on aluminum and wood. I just need a stationary mount for the Dremel to cut slits.
Honestly, I need a new Dremel as this one has vibration problems due to bearings.
I still prefer the cut off wheel method over the saw for those small cuts....
