Default Editing properties of media content

I'm using Windows Move Maker 2 to put together some movies for a demonstration. It puts out *.wmv's by default, and a few other formats and compressions/resolutions that, in my opinion, are quite terribly labeled.

[s]My question is this: How can I put in my personal information in the file so that my name and information are visible when one plays it in Media Player and selects File>Properties>Content, or even better, visible in the status bar during play? I've tried to google the answer, but I apparently don't know the exact words to search for.[/s]

Edit: Nevermind the first question; I figured it out five minutes after posting. I don't feel terribly bright about it.

Perhaps this is the same question, but does anyone know any free conversion software so that I can convert the *.wmv to an *.avi or *.mpeg of the filesize and resolution I desire?

By the way, if rumors of WMP9 not playing DVDs are true, that is t3h sux.

Reencoding degrades the quality, so you would be much better served to change to a program that can encode to what you want in the first place. If the program doesn't allow you to export to avi and choose a codec, then it's a POS.

If you have an avi and want to make an mpg, then I'd recommend tmpgenc. You may be able to open your wmv with tmpgenc as well, but again I wouldn't recommend it.
