my friens is thinking of building a ghetto water cooling system, i thought up this design for a radiator, thoughts? suggestions? i got the idea from sweat and the venturi design

It does have the evaporative cooling negative of... evapouration, this may or may not matter to you.(it would matter to me)
You say "mist" and I think, how powerful is your pump, obviously if you plan to have such high pressure spray nozzles that it makes a mist, you will need quite a bit of pump power to do it. If you don't have quite the mist, I don't think the water will cool very well in such a short distance. Just look at people's WCing bongs, usually quite tall. If you're dead set on ghetto, you can still use a closed loop solution by making a ghetto radiator or sorts, but if you wanna see one of the best looking Evap. that is where you miss the point, you see, if the air water mix got blown out, THEN you would lose the water, but since the water has to go under the lip of the venturi (in the form of bubbles) the moisture in the air is removed before the air is released.
as for the nozzles, since its a ghetto system (this is not my system btw) hes getting either the eheim 1250 or 1260 (the only nice part in the system) and hes going to pinch off the end of some copper piping very very flat. remember, the tornado will be pumping out the air like crazy, and when combined with the venturi design, the air will be moving so fast it will in a way "dissinagrate" the water structure. my only concerns are this: the simple fact that heat CANNOT dissapear, it must remain as heat or change into some other form of energy. so im wondering, the air holds the heated spray, and it goes underwater. i wonder if the air would transfer some of this heat to the reservior in the bottom? |

This won't work, at least not as you have described.
The reason evaporative coolers work is that when water evaporates, it absorbs latent heat of evaporation from it's surroundings. In the case of a bong cooler, this is the other water, thus cooler water. Now, if you attempt to return the water to the liquid state, then it will release the same latent heat of evaporation back into the coolant. So no net removal of heat. Evaporative coolers cannot work unless the water is free to carry the heat away. This means topping the water up all the time. 8-ball

I don't think the fan will blow the air into the water and if it does, wouldn't it just make a depression in the entire liquid surface?
Maybe I am missing somethign though... Also I think the only cooling you will get is from evaporation, because there is convection into the air from the mist, but then you blow the heat back into the other water rather than takign it away.... I'm no expert though - interesting idea mind you...
