Yeah - stuff that was released in the 80's and early 90's is pretty cheap.
Generally, the words "cheap" and "mac hardware" are mutually exclusive terms. However, if I wasn't so entangled with Windows, I'd very much consider the purchase of a new Mac.

If you're looking for old 68k computers...sure you can get them and their hardware cheap.
Or the early Power PC 601/604 series Macs... Other than that... hahahahahahaha oh... I got some old Macs from the Flea Market. I also saw some old Macs from my High School at the local School Board Sales Center.

there are only 3 reasons i'm looking at a mac: 1. does not use a M$ OS 2. their laptops are cool: 1" thick 17" display. 3. FreeBSD-based OS that runs adobe & macromedia design products.

BSD based you mean...I assume OSX or whatever its called?
See if you can find like a Power PC 8000/9000 if you can't find the G-series CPU powered ones cheap enough.

Actually, you can pick up old (233mz - 333mhz) iMacs pretty cheap........you can find people that will give you an old one........very common problem is the flyback transformer......the Imac turns on, starts to boot, then powers down......a shop charges too much to fix the problem, so the owners buy a new machine and beg someone to take the old one.
Flyback transformers are $45-$80 and take about 1 hour of time to change out.........toss in a 500mhz/1Meg cache proc upgrade ($174), a 40G WD SE drive ($65) and load up OS X (10.2) and you have quite a nice machine. I have one, kind of fun to play with
