In comparison to what?
Everyone has their own unique perception of "quiet" and "loud". Better to ask for a comparison relative to a fixed frame of reference that you are familiar with. |

Well it's noisier than my Iwaki MD-30, but not by much. Different noise though. MD-30 is more like a turbine whine, whereas the MCP600 is more like a rumble.

You do have the WMD20 though, with the American motor. I have the Japanese motored MD30. WMD's are meant to be somewhat noisier than the MD's. MCP600 probably has a similar sort of volume to its noise level as the WMD20. |

i wonder how much quieter the jap motor is. Cause my american motor one isnt noisy at all. it just has this little hum. but since the thing is pretty big it does have this basier sound. but its still quieter than my fans at low voltages.
Well then I would think the mcp600 is fairly quiet then. Would you say that some fans at 7volt would drown out the noise from it. Or rather in your experience do they. Thanks again for the help.

Yeah, the MD30 motor doesn't even hum. You just get the turbine whine sound which really drops in volume the moment you put some restriction on the pump (attach it to a block).
When inside my MDF radbox I couldn't tell that the MD30 was on at all. If I turned everything else off in the room and listened, and then turned off the MD30 you could then tell that the room got quieter, but I had trouble distringuishing "why", as the MDF box basically converted the pump's whine into background white noise. |

MDF has great noise-blocking properties, is cheap as heck, and is easy to work with. Just wear a dust mask m'kay.

Another 'noise' question regarding the MCP600...
Is there any appreciable difference in volume or tone of the emitted sound when running on 12v vs 13.8v? I really liked Cathar's info on the Iwaki RD30 undervolted to 18v but considering the prices I am being quoted would allow me to get 3-4 MCP 600s.....well....till I win the lottery it will be the MCP 600 for me ![]() |

Just a thought, but it might be cool if Phaes, buddy ol pal, compa, if maybe there was a page here at Pro, with recordings of all of Phaes pumps (or any pump hoarder here at Pro). All recorded at the same place, same spec, same everything then people could just pick one they are familiar with set volume to what their perception tells them and listen to the rest. Just a thought since there are alot of these "how loud" questions.

This seems like a good idea, however they would certainly have to be done by the same person. (Phaestus?). There are many, many variables in this though. You would need equal resistance on each pump, same fans/other noise, no background noise (although having some would be more realistic there is no way to have controlled white noise...) and I imagine a very good mic setup to be able to accuratly record a slight humming. Then there would be requests for the same test with different combinations of fans, etc. But if someone got this together, it would be a very good addition to the community; probably the first to do this.

its a nice idea, but really not that feasable. It also doesnt give you the correct volume of the pumps we have no reference point to put the volume level on our speakers at.
IMO it would be too difficult for very little gains...

I'd think that noise considerations aren't really totally a matter of dBA level, but also the frequency of the sound.

Whatever the complications or inadaquicies it has me constantly checking out spcr's reviews because there is nothing like hearing it first hand. Or using something which is why we even bother with online reviews. Even the crappy unscientific ones that your guys brutalize...someone had to read it to get it here to become another victom.
