I'm concerned with my water setup as of now. I've been pressure testing on water for the last few days, and even tho my system is more than strong enough I had a major blow off of a tube, and I'm just not satisfied with regular water and or methanol anymore. I'm looking into other coolants and with respect to this section of the forum I have a few questions.
Has anyone ever ran oil in a water pump or can tell me for certain this is flat out stupid? (Im talking about a nice Iwaki... Something expensive) Would It be possible to run an oil pump in the loop? Is oil stupid in a loop? I would think I might have more of a seal problem. Also please keep in mind there are low viscosity oils out there too, but maybe anything more viscous than water is a bad idea. I'm also aiming for a chilled water solution so low temps ie -50c are a must. Thank you in advance. |

not exactly stupid, but water is used because it is the best. Better than just about every oil out there (or indeed anything else)
I did a calculation (using a correlation formula) for FC77 (flourinert) some time back and rejected it on the grounds that performance wasn't there. look around i'm sure there is something. NB: The whole point of using a dialetric is so you don't need a waterblock just squirt it on the cpu die. |

Can you explain how you got a blow off? What pressures have you been testing? Hose clamps?
Otherwise, most mag drive pumps don't take well to visquous liquids, even if insignificantly more viscous than water. |
